There's something that I don't understand.

Carlos Tevez has never signed a new contract whilst he has been at City.
In an official statement on their website, City declared Tevez as the highest earner at the club.
Every single paper reported that he was on £150k a week.

Does this mean that our top earner is actually on £150k a week?
(Obviously before Aguero and Clichy came in)

I think it means that Ya Ya Toure' may have took a signing on cash lump sum, if that is your question.

So if that is nett,he would have to earn £300K per week, which I cannot see.But if what you are saying (or City reporting) surely the rest of his basic wage must be made up of bonuses of Playing,Scoring,League Position,Cup Winners and Club bonuses for all players.
That would equate to the supposed £270K he was earning.
So I wonder if Yaya and Sergio are now the highest.
Very interesting !

It has been said by people more than once in the past (possibly by Cook himself though I'm not certain) that the wages quoted by the media are exaggerated.

However, it could be the case that Tevez has the highest basic wage, whilst others such as Yaya earn more from post-season bonuses after fulfilling targets.

No, my question is how ridiculous myths like the one about Yaya Toure's wages are peddled when 2 Google searches shown them to be false. Is everybody seriously telling me that journos can't perform two Google searches before printing something?

For the record, the Yaya myth started because his "advisor" was quoted in the now defunct News of the World, as saying that he was well paid. When asked if it was £200k a week he said that "Yaya has the possibility to earn close to that if all possible bonus conditions are met". For all possible bonus conditions, he'd have to play every game, we'd have to win every game, keep a clean sheet every game and he'd have to score every game. We'd also have to win every trophy, including CL trophies that we weren't entered in. And then, in his advisors words he'd earn "close to £200k a week".

The rest, was paper spin.

Now, again the question remains. If *I* know this, why the hell don't most of the journalists on Fleet Street?

A perfect example of this is Tony Pullis commenting on Chelsea's manager the other day

They really will print what the droves will lap up.

journalists stopped reporting on facts many moons ago

conjecture, myths, half truths and down right lies have been the order of the day since murdoch's arrival on the scene

it used to be about reporting the news, now its about maximising profit

I long since stopped bothering about the numbers quoted in the media re City, they're just bullshit, and the club very professionally refuse to comment on any of it. I'm sure they're all well paid, but I'm also sure its not much more than the other top clubs pay their top earners, and ditto with sponsorship deals, if UEFA investigate I'm sure the bollox printed by a not knowing media, will be proved very well wide of the mark, I'm confident that we have it all nailed firmly down.

The club is being very well run, and it doesn't worry me one bit that we are paying or receiving over the odds, the majority of it is not my money, so I'm just enjoying what we are so lucky to have.

having read the original article in the notw,i know that is entirely correct, also it was for the last year of his contract as well,i have given up trying to dispel the myth of yaya's wages,it is quoted as fact by the media, tv and press, and so every person i meet who talks about city always refers to this 'fact' it is now an urban legend.............annoys the hell out of me!
