CL new format - can anyone explain ?

The top 8 will probably be the usual suspects. Everybody else just hoping to fight it out for the play off. To us achieving that would be fucking amazing. I would donate everybody on here to medical science for experiments to achieve that.

The listed table after 1 game (yeah I know - 1 game)

Why are Shaktar below Bologna ? They should be above Atalanta ?

If it was based on the away result, surely it should be the other way round.

Not that it matters after 1 game (well 3 results of 0-0), just seems random, the other 4 I can kinda see, as it's away team before home team, and then alphabetical.

This is possibly the reason

If teams are still equal in all aspects, they will be given equal ranking in the table, ordered alphabetically based on their abbreviated name for rounds 1 to 7.

@Xhavenjoe has just beaten to me to it, but I'll post this anyway.

This is the table on UEFA's website.

At the bottom says this

Between MD1 and MD7, if teams are level on points, they are ranked based on Article 18 criteria a to e. If teams are still level on all those criteria, they are given equal ranking in the table, ordered alphabetically based on their abbreviated name. From MD8, teams are ranked based on the full criteria a to j.

Article 18 Equality of points – league phase

18.01
If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the league phase matches, the following criteria are applied, in this order, to determine their rankings:
  1. Superior goal difference in the league phase
  2. Higher number of goals scored in the league phase
  3. Higher number of away goals scored in the league phase
  4. Higher number of wins in the league phase
  5. Higher number of away wins in the league phase
  6. Higher number of points obtained collectively by league phase opponents
  7. Superior collective goal difference of league phase opponents
  8. Higher number of goals scored collectively by league phase opponents
  9. Lower disciplinary points total based only on yellow and red cards received by players and team officials in all league phase matches (red card = 3 points, yellow card = 1 point, expulsion for two yellow cards in one match = 3 points)
  10. Higher club coefficient (see Annex D)

So after MD1, all 6 teams are level on criteria a to e (or 1 to 5, as it is actually written in Article 18) so "they are given equal ranking in the table, ordered alphabetically based on their abbreviated name."

Where's your table from?

It's alphabetical on the UEFA website.

Its the same as last year really. It'll be fucking boring until the knockout stages, but it will be a bit more expensive for match-going (paying) fans.
