CL Quarter Final Draw - Liverpool A Apr 4th - H Apr 10th

Preference:

1. Shakhtar
2. Sevilla
3. Roma
4. United
5. Juventus
6. Bayern
7. Liverpool
8. Real Madrid
9. Barcelona

I think we can beat them all, on our day, but Real Madrid are incredibly strong and their experience of having regularly reached the final and won the tournament gives them an edge over most other teams. I'd love us to win the CL, but I still think we'll have to suffer going out in the semi-finals or losing a final first before we actually do. Maybe we will buck the trend, but I won't be disheartened if I see us only stepping closer.

Welcome to the 2015/16 season! That one is well and truly boxed off

I'd take Bayern before Juve, they showed against Spurs they can be very difficult opponents over 2 legs. I'm not convinced that Bayern are quite as good as they were a few years ago, they seem over-reliant on Lewandowski for goals.

United/Sevilla and Shaktar/Roma will be every clubs dream, they're by far and away the weakest sides left in it. After that its liverpool but for us they're probably the most dangerous team for us and I'd sooner take anybody else. June would come after that and then I think you can group the other 3 and us as the four strongest with it being arguable who's better.

I might be in minority here but do share your point of view on this ... the whole myth of being drawn at home second is advantageous is in my view only a myth ... I actually think having second leg away is more advantageous ...

My reasoning is away goals rule ... carry over a draw after first leg and your goals count as double when away ... moreover if it goes to extra time you have that extra half an hour to score away goals vs if you are at home and the tie stretches to the extra time then you are giving your opponent that opportunity of extra half hour to score an away goal ... wherebas you’d need to score two to get anything out of it then.

And also not like we ever have a colosseum like atmosphere at the Etihad that would intimidate anyone (at this level) as much so I don’t actually see if being home second gives all that extra advantage?

Excellent point.

Fair enough. Let’s hope you turn out to be wrong.

Hope so, too, but you have to go back to 2009-10 for a relative 'outsider' to come through and win it straight: Mourinho's Internazionale.
It can be done, but it might entail an incongruous draw, similar to that season, maybe something like:

City v Roma
Juventus v Liverpool

Bayern v That lot
Real Madrid v Barcelona

Think the 2nd leg at home was a advantage in years gone by based on a number of factors.
Less information was available about your opponents, crowd intimidation sometimes came into play, travel arrangements and accomodation were much more difficult and the state of pitches was a big factor as teams could have a advantage being used to their own.
Almost all of these things have been eliminated over time and it's maybe just because I'm a old **** that I remember these coming into play.

preferred ties: Roma/Shaktar & Utd/Sevilla and Real Madrid,we are tactically also individually better than these teams in some cases

50/50 ties: Barcelona/Chelsea, liverpool, these are tactically difficult ties but have some weakness we can exploit

difficult games: bayern and Juve, these teams have best squad to counter us and with a proven pedigree in UCL also tactically difficult. would avoid them personally

i would like us to face utd or real imo

To be honest for the first time I think we believe we are in with a shot of the CL, on that basis we are going to have to play the best and so couldn't give a flying fuck who we draw.

I have to admit that I would love to draw the rags.

Just don't want rags or dippers in the final because while I think City would win it'd be a dreadful experience in Kiev with rag fans pouring in from Istanbul and all points east, or tens of thousands of scousers spending six months of dole money or selling every stick of furniture to get there.
