Clarkson Suspended by BBC

I know that this is a heavily popular show worldwide, watched by hundreds of millions of people, but Im so self important that I believe any entertainment that isn't personally to my taste should be immediately scrapped. I understand that entertainment is subjective but my tastes coincidentally happen to be correct

As a licence fee payer I do believe I have the right to express an opinion as to how my money is spent.

You didn't really think that one through did you.

The BBC makes real profit from Top Gear (unlike most of its programming).

There is an argument the license fee would be more expensive without it.

You may express any opinion you wish, as everyone can. But stating that you may express it for the reason that you are a license fee payer is bollocks reasoning as Top Gear costs the license fee payer nothing, zero, zilch. So you don't pay for any of it. It would be like saying "well as a tax payer I am against Premier League Football" as it costs money to police it - forgetting that Premier League Football brings in far more for UK Plc than it takes out.

Without Top Gear, the license fee would either have to be higher or the BBC would have a smaller budget.

The Licence fee is far too low. It should be at least £400. For the excellent service the BBC provides I'd gladly sell my house and all it's contents

From a friend of a friend of a friend so take this with a lorryload of salt driven by the Stig but apparently Clarkson in private is a decent bloke and the persona he displays in public is an act. Trouble is he's overegged the public persona so much it's got out of hand.

The BBC are in a no win situation here. If they keep him on the Mail and others are going to be screaming blue murder about the Beeb continuing to employ someone who assaulted a colleague. If they fire him the Mail and co are going to go berserk at them not providing value for money for the licence fee. Top Gear is probably their biggest money spinner next to Doctor Who.

For my money I don't really mind Clarkson as I've convinced myself it's all just an act but if the allegations are true and he's thrown digs at a superior (and a producer is his boss) he's gone. If you or I did it we'd be gone in 20 minutes and we'd only last that long as that's how long it would take HR to do the paperwork. But in a couple of months "A reminder here on Sky One, the new season of Game of Thrones continues on Thursday. But first a new motoring series presented by some familiar faces: High Gear!"
