I could play these three albums back to back. My favourite era of music. It's a bit simplistic calling it Grunge as Alice in Chains were leaning more towards Metal.

Three of the greatest voices in Rock music, Layne Staley dead, Chris Cornell selling out but Eddie Vedder still going reasonably strong.

Go on mate when did Cornell sell out, Soundgarden back and toured, sole album and tour, Temple of the dog tour in the states. yep good old Chris has sold out, f**king behave ;-)

A matter of opinion, a classic for me is an album you "only press play".....and listen. I believe they are classics in their respected genres, mind you I do like far-out/ quacky albums too.

Of course it is a matter of opinion and taste; plus, there is no definitive definition of what constitutes a classic album. I'm just taking a very narrow view of what a classic album should be, to the extent that being a genre classic does not necessarily make an album a true classic. Classic albums are ones that have stood the test of time, albums that have wide recognition for their quality and that have remained popular. Again, it really is a matter of opinion.

The archetype of a classic album would be something like Led Zep IV. There's not a bad track on the album, there are several individually classic tracks that still get played to death on US radio and that have been hugely influential. It's just a f#*king monster; even the album cover is legendary.

Yes I agree with you on most of your points I would rate the following albums as pure classics Love, Forever Changes .....the zombies odessey and Oracle and probably five of The Beatles albums which were massively influential in their time...... and another hugely influential album was are you experienced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience
