I feel like way too many people have become obsessed with age since last season when we were labeled with the oldest squad, even though we've bought plenty of young talent this window.

This is the captain of the back to back Copa American champions & best keeper award winner we are talking about here. The # 1 keeper in South America, the # 1 keeper at Barca. Have some respect for Bravo.
 
Another aspect of Peps goalkeeping requirements I have barely seen mentioned is the sweeper role. Comming out to clear and intercept the long ball. Saw Willy do this on Saturday. Joe is great 1-1 but I have often seen situations where I have thought where is Joe? and then see him stuck to his line. Joe barely dominates his box let alone the final 1/3 of the pitch. His decision making is suspect in these situations as well. A tough summer for Joe. I just hope that he has not dug his own grave with the Arsenal friendly and that this is all about horses for courses and not his attitude.

People doubting pep and the clubs judgement over sentiment are stupid.

Sentiment is one of the reasons we've never kicked on from Either of the titles.
Now we have a manager who won't tolerate players who aren't good enough or passengers

Been following this for a while before commenting and you have explained it very well. New managers see things differently and some have the bottle to change things and upset and ruffle feathers. Hart for me was ok but not fantastic, he had some brilliant games just like other outfield players have .Some posters are worrying what club he will go to, come on ! it's football and things move on.
Ño players are untouchable and if they are not cutting it, then they make way.

It's all well and good having a keeper who fits the philosophy but the Premier League is different. Keepers are closed down much more and keepers are physically battered at set pieces. Being great with the ball counts for little if he looks a reck every time a ball is launched into the box. I just think its a risky decision to be honest and we have other pressing issues in other areas.

As many have said, don't let sentiment cloud your judgement.

Claudio Bravo is a better goalkeeper than Joe Hart for the system that we will be playing.

Bravo is more mobile, is a better passer, and is definitely not worse than Hart as a shot stopper. He also makes far fewer mistakes.

On top of that, he is a better shot stopper than Ter Stegen and will cost a third of the price.

I thank Joe for all he has done for our club and will never forget the hand he has had in our success, but I trust in Pep and this is the right call. I wish Joe all the best in the future, but I for one hope this comes to fruition.
 
Only real issue I have with this is is Bravo better than Hart

People are saying he's as good as Joe at shot stopping but against what

The Spanish league is a 3 horse race every year and from what games I have watched every team park the bus against Barca and Madrid

I understand he's a better fit to the system but his he as good as a shot stopper

Not watched him too much so just putting the question out there

He's arguably better.

He basically won the Copa America for Chile (see his stunning save off Aguero in the final as a perfect example) and his shot stopping record in every competition is impeccable.

La Liga being a 3 horse race is irrelevant when you have to go up against some of the most dangerous players in the game on a weekly basis.

What on earth does being in a 3 team league have to do with his shot stopping
This forum is awash with blinded opinions half the time..

Bravo is a far superior keeper
Whether barca and the 2 madrids are totally dominant is not important, he still has shots to save
The players in la liga can kick a football at the goal and a shot from a Sevilla forward is the same as a hit from a west brom left back
Theyre professional footballers and he has to pull off top saves whether he plays for barca or chile

Cant wait to get this guy in, orchestrating the back 4/3 with his footwork, something Hart doesnt have it in him to do, unfortunately

I want the best for Hart in the long run, and I hope he keeps his England place; Everton is the best option for him and dont be surprised if he does have a worldy against us
That wont mean its a mistake to make this change though, we MUST TRUST the guy weve chased for 5 years..

There's also far too many people obsessed with transfer fees. If the manager thinks that bringing a particular player in is central to getting his entire system to work, then 20m really is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. It's not our money and we aren't playing with tight war chests these days or hamstrung by FFP, so I don't see the issue.

I'm purely speculating, but I suspect Pep is less than impressed with Hart's attempts to improve this area of his game. Officially, he's known for 6 months that Pep would be his next manager. And unofficially, this has been on the cards for much longer than that.

Joe must surely have known that his existing style wouldn't cut it in a Guardiola setup, but did he actually do anything about it? Or did he just think "I'm England's No. 1 and if he wants me to change, he can take the time to teach me"? None of us know the answer to that, but there certainly seems to be a clash of personalities involved.

Totally agree, mate, Joe had me pulling my hair out last season with his inability to get the ball released quickly and pounce on teams after we had broke up there attacks, I said to my lad virtually every game that hes useless at releasing the ball early and he used to say that players were not showing for him, time after time he ignored the options right in front him only to hump it up field after teams had got back into there defensive positional shapes.Its a shame but he just isn't a Pep player and it doesn't matter whether hes a striker, midfielder, defender or goalkeeper.

Sadly his shot stopping has gone to pot and its very noticeable he seems to struggle down low to both sides these days-he regressed since the Mancini era, I think we all would like him to make it and be coached into a goalkeeper that is comfortable with the ball at his feet but hes a bit long in the tooth now to be able to change his game to that degree, he s a typical English goalkeeper when it comes to distributing the ball.

Its a shame his City career looks like its coming to an end, his performance in Gothenburg smacked of disobeying orders and that wont wash with a guy like Pep.
