To be honest I agree with Fergie. The guy is a genius so why disagree with him? If he says Cleverley is the best midfielder in Britain then, for me, he must be. He kept Wigan up single-handedly and before he got injured he was playing on the same level as players like Xavi & Iniesta.
lol

Cleverley is nowhere near the best midfielder in the league but by Fergie telling him he is might just have a positive effect on him, who knows. I bet Cleverley would rather hear that than something negative or nothing at all.

I'm loathe to starting new threads about United, and I know that the hyping of Tom "Zinedine" Cleverley is a long running joke, but even I was astounded to see Ferguson describe him today as "the best midfielder in Britain":

Ferguson conceded that the absence of the likes of Tom Cleverley, – "the best midfielder in Britain" – meant that despite the 5-0 thrashings handed out to Fulham and Wigan, United's performances have not quite matched the irresistible displays at the start of the season.

Phil Jones will be devastated at the snub.

Official.. Alex has lost it..

Not long now.

N'zogbia?
Rodallega?
Al-habsi?

The problem is for mind games to work like anything else they have to be plausible and that just isnt. If you were to tell silva, gerrard, lampard, wilshere etc that they were the best midfielder in the league they could have a legitimate claim to be that and might make them feel like a world beater to tell someone who was loaned out to wigan last season and not deemed good enough for a midfield last season that contained anderson and fletcher.

All saying that has done is open him up to ridicule and pressure.

If Cleverley stays fit then the campaign will start in the media for him to be pronounced Young Player of the Year at the end of the season. However, it will be the only thing a rag wins this year, so fuck 'em.
