Clive James

"Unreliable memoirs" and the sequel "Falling towards England" were two of the funniest books I ever read. Right up there with Spike Milligan's war diaries as rites of literary passage in my late teens/early 20's. I shall doff my cap at his passing. A talented man

I agree. I read these many years ago and I loved them.

The full set of autobiographies (5 now I think) are writing at its very best; very wittiest; most insightful. He has also written some classic TV critque stuff, mainly for The Observer, but brought together in 4 or 5 different books (Crystal Gaze?). His poetry takes a bit of getting used to but the man is clearly one of the non-fictional literary giants of recent times.

I remember my teacher reading from Unrealiable Memoirs way back in 1986 during an A Level English Lit lesson and the whole class were totally transfixed by the way James wrote: very, very funny.

Very intelligent man .
Very dry sense of humour .
I liked Clive James . A man who wasn't frightened of upsetting people .
