Club Badge (merged)

Next requirement, that the outer ring is white.

I'm dreading the day when they reveal its blue, just like New York and Melbourne.

Just received this e-mail - round badge it is:

"As you know, the Club has been undertaking a consultation with all Cityzens members to establish whether the Club badge should evolve, and if so, how.

The consultation period has closed with thousands of Cityzens members having given their views via the online Cityzens' questionnaire and the dedicated consultation space at the Etihad Stadium. Hundreds of you also attended a series of free lectures on the history of the badge, provided by Football Historian Gary James.

Having analysed all responses received, we can confirm that there is an overwhelming desire amongst Cityzens for the badge to evolve and that a round design, as used in two of the Club's three previous crests, is by far the most popular shape and continued to be so throughout the consultation.

We have therefore been engaging with our designers to establish a badge which most authentically reflects both Manchester City Football Club and the city of Manchester and which takes into account the feedback that we have received during this consultation.

The new badge design, when completed, will be publicly revealed in the coming weeks, but only after you, as a Cityzen, have seen it first."
No vote (disappointing) suggests it was already designed a while ago.

PMSL.

Decent marketing by the club. Took you lot in.

There are as-yet-undiscovered lifeforms living on hydrothermic vents 2 miles below the surface of the Atlantic who knew what the outcome of a "consultation" would be: go for a round badge, but now they can claim they "consulted the fans" before designing any new one they want and knocking it out.

Someone'e earning their money. I'd have done the same. You can't design a badge by committee, and you can#'t change anything at City without someone moaning. Both problems are completely solved.

To be fair, most city fans have been hankering for a round design for ages. They didn't have to consult for that but you're right...it does make it look like they are engaging the support

Had the same message, I'm absolutely delighted we're going back to a round badge. There is overwhelming support for it on this thread, the M.E.N poll, and seemingly the Cityzens consultation reflected that.

No mention of the eagle in the press release, only that the badge will represent the club and the city of Manchester. There are other symbols that do that far better than the eagle, so fingers crossed it will be consigned to history along with the blue shorts! :-)
I hope that you are right! I am a pessimistic old sod though and won`t celebrate until I see the new badge without eagle or stars!

Yeah, they knew the feeling about Franny's shit badge and used the forthcoming change as a marketing tool amongt fans to make them feel included. Fair play. In business you only put stuff to "comittee" if you know what the outcome will be. In this case it was as obvious as when they did this when we moved stadium.

"Kevin Parker, General Secretary of the Manchester City FC Supporters Club, said:

"I am delighted that the Club consulted with the fans about our most important symbol. It is impressive that they canvassed our opinions on this matter and that they want to reflect our feedback in the ultimate design.

"On a personal note, while the Eagle badge will rightly live on in fans’ hearts, minds and on football kits for all that it has come to symbolise over the years, I am pleased that we will once again see the round design which has twice featured in our past badges.

As the badge’s design is completed in the coming weeks, it will be publicly revealed after it has first been shared with all Cityzens members. Watch this space!"

This is looking really promising that the club realise that you cannot please everyone, and that it's a case of eagle or round badge. Doing both just doesn't work from a design point of view.

It's disappointing for a lot of genuine blue who like the eagle, but I hope they can appreciate if the support for a return to the round badge is "overwhelming" it's probably the right thing to do to reflect the majority of fans' views.

I'm sure in time young blues will eventually learn to love the round badge as much as the eagle. And for older blues who like the eagle, I'm sure they won't be too disappointed to go back to a round badge.
