Club before Country

For me its club over country, as my country never gets very far. We're underdogs for every match and are over performing, Northern ireland that is, so its great to see us do well, but City is in the heart.

As I said in another threat, Robinho wanting to be kept off to play for Brazil against Argentina. I dunno, but playing 0 point Portsmouth or playing a great national team FOR the greatest national team in history is something diffeent who happen to be your greatest rivals.. thats incomparable.

If I Robinho I know what I would choose and so would most people, dont let the blinkers say otherwise. We all love City, but none of us are professioal world class footballers, we see it differently than they do. We have criticised Ryan Giggs for not playing for Wales, and we criticise Robinho for wanting to play in one of the biggest international matches on the planet.

OK, let's say you don't play for City you play for... Athletico Madrid. England are playing Germany next week, you don't support Athletico Madrid and you have a strong connection to your national side. You'll want to make sure you're fit for the England game.

I actually cried when England got knocked out of the 2006 World cup, slightly gay I know but still, I feel very passionate for the national team.

That is the view I have always taken and always will. Sorry. That is all.

Your country is always your country, your club isnt neccessarily so.( Im talking players btw )

The reason i dont watch England is due to the amount of united players, playing. However if a few city players are playing i may tune in. You cant even compare Club and country, you choose your club, unfortunatly im stuck with supporting England! CTID

It gets on my nerves. Back in the day they would just play a qualifier mid week and still play for their clubs either end of it. What is the harm in that? But now all of a sudden we have to put up with constant and lenghty interruptions to the season. This is the second time in a month! I don't know anyone who isn't pissed of with it now.

What is worse, international football is boring. It's great once the tournament is under way but these pre tournament group stage games are usually boring mismatches at best and I don't know why the whole qualifiying process has to be two interminable years. I appreciate there has to be some way to ensure that the best teams qualify for South Africa but does it have to go on for two years? I think not.

But the friendly games are the worse. Why does everyone have to drop everything just to accommodate meaningless crap like the friendly against Holland last week. I agree with te Rag-Side on this, It us boring and ridiculous and only the little-Englander fans of Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra have any time for it.

I hear ya, but the problem is players in the major leagues come not just so many different countries anymore....but continents. I mean, playing a qualifier on Wed for Tevez or Robinho, and than playing a league game on Sat....that's a lot to ask.

For 100 grand a week I would play three fookin games.

The only reason theyre playing this stupid match today is MONEY, thats all the f.a are bothered about, how 80,000 mugs can go and get ripped off time and time again to watch these friendlies is beyond me. hope non of our players play for the beckham roadshow that is the england football team.

For 100 grand a week I would play every day for a year. set me up for life that

I would say i am club before country but i am still a big England fan!

I am English and therefore support England in everything they do: Athletics (altho mainly GB), Rugby league and union, all English Boxers espec Mancunian ones (even the United fans like Jamie Moore, met him a few times, top lad), and the sport i love the most- footy!
Therefore the England football team are very high up in my priorities and in my heart! When people say they dont support their country they appear, in my eyes, as sad twisted patheitc bitter fools who need to grow up and get themselves away from an shit way of thinking [for these people like this, think back to when you were a kid, what did you think of England footy then!? why is it different now?]!

And in my country i am from Manchester and so i support the club of that area and im a City fan above all else! I love singing songs about Manchester and the team that play there, i love wearing the City shirt as it represents where im from, what sort of person i am and that i show loyalty and pride in where i come from! and this on a fiercer level to being English as Manchester has the history of making the world what it is today with the industrial revolution, the first computer sparking the digital revolution, great music that shapes generations, sporting figures and teams that are world reknonwed etc etc etc! and wearing my City shirt represents all of this, not just my support for a 11 men kicking a ball about on some grass!

This is where i see the none-local fans of club football teams (and i dont give a fuck who i offend/upset/anger here) are also a bit patheitc that they seek to wear the shirt of a town or city that they dont come from - they cant really feel the same as Mancunian City fans do about City, no matter how much they think they do and even feel they do in their own heart! I would never ever ever dream of wearing the shirt of, let alone supporting, another national team! and i think it is exactly the same at club level! I look at all the far Eastern Asians, Irish and wherever else they come from in their millions in United shirts and i dont consider them proper United fans!

Ive heard and seen for years all the Irish that support English clubs! There are a few on this site that are from Cork, when Cork City are in massive financial trouble, WHAT THE FUCK! If i was from Cork and was a Cork City fan i'd be heart broken to see the team from my town going down the swanny and be ashamed of all the glory hunters that support English teams! What are you ashamed of where you come from or summet? But surely not? There are as many people living in Ireland as in Scotland, have they ever thought of this? Because with that they could get behind their local clubs and Cork, a Dublin team, etc could get some huge support and make the Irish league as big, if not bigger, than the SPL!!! So then why dont you support your local teams? leaving them as poor amatuer run teams with lack of sponsors and coverage and Irish footy is just left in the background to the THE ENGLISH GAME! What could your national team become of your local clubs get bigger and richer and get really good Academies up and running to bring through even better talent with better training and coaching than what is available now! ??

And this is just one example, there are loads of other areas and countries that are like this!
Its just beyond my way of reckoning, its like........well, i dunno! Its just madness! The national shirt represents what country you are from, the club shirt represents what town or city you are from in that country! I wear both with pride to say im English and Mancunian!

Anyway i went way off track there, way off, abit of a rant there really? but i suppose its been on me mind and is what i feel so why not get it off my chest hey!? I understand that id prob get a thousand posts arguing against me and calling me this and that, even by Mancunian City fans, but for everyone, what are the main things we take the piss out of United for!?
