Coffee

Not good on the guts to be drinking strong black coffee (as i do) 1st thing of a morning.
Coffee is a 11's drink. No later than 3 certainly unless you are a hopeless insomniac and enjoy the misery.

Tea 1st thing. (Always).
Coffee upto late lunch/early afternoon.
Herbals in the evening.
Yep. I know. I've cut down to 11 cups a day.

;-)

Seriously, 4 cups a day.

On my journey through the dietary horrors of GERD, my consultant told me that nobody should ever drink fresh coffee 1st thing on an empty stomach and to do so was akin to drinking battery acid.

It's one of those things that's perfectly fine until it's not.

That's me fucked then. First thing after crawling out of bed, put the kettle on for a cup of coffee.

A cup of coffee has only 5ml of caffeine more than a cup of tea, energy drinks have less but a lot of sugar. #google

Like anything else which brand of coffee to drink is a personal taste. Probably the same as many people here I started out as a kid drinking whatever my parents had in the house which varied over time but it was always just a jar of instant, like most working class households. Anything from Nescafe to Mellow Birds ( Anybody remember that?) For some reason I never drank tea after about the age of seven. I've no idea why not as my parents and sister preferred that over coffee.

It wasn't until I went away to sea in 1974 I discovered percolated coffee. This was usually in the officers mess, as us ragarse crew still had the instant stuff in industrial sized tins in the mess room. I quite liked the percolated stuff and began to get a taste for it.

Over the years I've tried every brand going. By far the best I've found is Waitrose number 1 Kenyan AA. Of course this is one of the most expensive, now at £4 a 227g pack. Aldi do a French one, number 5 strength which is a great substitute at £2.20 a pack.

I only drink one or two.mugs a day but I really enjoy it. No sugar just some coffee mate or it's equivalent. I've found milk just kills the taste of the coffee. It's good reading what types others prefer. I also don't have a fancy machine just a cafeteria, add coffee and water, wait a few minutes and hit the plunger, job done!

Get in to work 5.50am, coffee, start a t 6.
Nescaffe instant, job done. None of this fanny arse, fancy pants bollocks.

I'm currently using a nespresso pod machine, quick, clean, not a bad taste, but so expensive. Spent about £1200 on pods last year between the two of us.

I'd like to halve that cost but what are my options? Aeropress? sub £100 espresso machine? anything else? Find Cafetiere coffee quite bitter so thats not an option.

I'm not spending £500 on a fancy machine and I don't want to spend more time cleaning it than actually drinking coffee, so what are my options?

I drink coffee granules and enjoy it.Even use coffee mate instead of milk.
The last thing i will listen to is coffee snobs spending a fortune on machines and coffee and trying to tell me what I'm doing wrong in life.lol.
