Yeah it was part of Viva la Vida and although I've always felt playing music after a goal was a bit small-time, I have to admit it sounded fucking awesome - probably due in no small part to the sound system they've got in their ground. It was booming and puts the the English clubs to shame.

I think a lot of German teams do the same thing when a goal is scored - not necessarily the same song though.

In the ground it sounded quality, looked and sounded pretty impressive.
If it wasn't for shay then I think we'd have been hearing viva la vida 3 or 4 more times.
One of the best grounds I've visited.

Hamburg have played coldplay when scored since this winter. Before every player has got their own goal-jingle. When Nigel arrived from Amsterdam he took "DJ Tiesto - Traffic"...

Why wasn't "Grandma we love you" played when Ireland bagged the 1st then?

All German clubs have a specific song that is played when they score.

The vids in this link tells you what song is played for what club...

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.fanartisch.de/news/bundesliga-tor-songs-fussball-tor-hymnen-tor-musik-tore-video-deutschland/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.fanartisch.de/news/bundeslig ... utschland/</a>

Some seemingly dodgy songs in there, but they fit perfectly with the mood whenever a goal is scored and gets the fans on their feet, chanting along with the tune and clapping away (like the sound byte from the Mainz song, red and white stripes 6:50). Those that watch the Bundesliga on live streams or whatever might have heard these songs in the background :-)

It's tradition in Germany and elsewhere in Europe and we don't care if anybody else thinks its low brow or uncool or lame or whatever. We enjoy it and always will :-)
