Cole Palmer

Even when he was at his absolute peak, he was a player who sometimes gave the impression of just getting by in the first half of the season and then come the championship rounds from about March until May, come out firing.

Obviously at 34, they’ll come a time in the not too distant future, when he looks for that extra gear, and it just isn’t there any more.

But I’m confident that time isn’t just yet. Expecting him to play a big part in the second half of the season.
12 months at half pace in Spain in a half arsed team.

It'll take 25 games and at least 6 months to get back to 90% of his peak.

He's also18 months older.

Great cover, a great example to others and a great opportunity to learn about management and coaching from Pep.

Win !!

There is more to it than just being a great player, which there is no denying he is.

A decent personality, the ability to get on with teammates, work ethic, empathy, social maturity, level-headedness, etc are all traits in players that help build a successful, cohesive team. Perhaps Cole just didn't fit the bill?
Agreed. Stuff us mere plebs would have no idea about. Look at Cancelo as an example. On his day, an excellent player (not as good as Palmer has turned out, mind). But by all accounts, a bit of a twat in the dressing room. And a disruptive influence. That's why I was delighted we didn't get Ronaldo a few years back. A harmonious group of players, which we seem to have, is priceless

Thoughts on how savvy it is to carry on with this tactic or risk unsettling our global stars by not playing 90mins all the time by having a bigger squad Because let's face it, it is quite an outrageous one and we seem to somehow keep pulling it off - just about! What a genius Pep is.

Again on Saturday we squeezed 3 points out of our arses like we have many times this season already and honestly on many occasions last season too. International breaks is always an obvious one. Erling literally looked like he'd played over 20 games in last 2 weeks alone in 2nd half v saints. Yes we have 6/7 injuries certainly is hitting our quality too.

Bernardo in an interview last year said look "we get paid alot of money and cannot complain etc but if the fans want to see our A game levels every week it ain't happening basically due to amount games played " or summit like that.

I personally would have preferred to have pissed off Cole in summer and instruct him wasn't fukin going anywhere especially thosepoky Fulham like twats. Can't believe we flogged a Manchester lad who is top of form tree probably in the league!

Just shout Pep Out and have it done with

Is there anything at all to suggest Palmer lacked the ability to get on with teammates or lacked work ethic, empathy, social maturity or level-headedness?

I suspect if that was the case he would have been out years ago.

He's a 1 position player and Pep wants players to play multiple positions so they stay happy and get used more often.

Pep tried him out at other positions but he didn't shine there and his primary position had Mahrez/ Bernardo in their treble form ahead of him.

He didn't want to wait and left.

Sorta similar to what's happened with Nunes.. his primary position has lots of people ahead of him so he's being tried out at left wing.. but he's actually producing.

He's a Steve macmanaman. A couple of good seasons, media singing his praises, all is positive. I don't see what else he does when he isn't the star.

People elevating him to Hazard levels is crazy. He's at the right club at the right time at the right stage of his career. Good luck to him, he'll deserve it.

Who knows?

All I know is that City don't put talent above all else when recruiting players. Most players that get to PL level are gifted footballers, and with the right level of maturity, confidence and work ethic off the pitch they can take that on to the field of play and make it work in a cohesive, strong team. All of the current players at City seem to get on with each other. There doesn't seem to be any tension between groups or individuals within the current squad, and that's down to good recruitment and management.
