Sad news.

The former Scotland and Blackburn Rovers defender Colin Hendry has been formally declared bankrupt at a Lancashire court.

Hendry, of Lytham, was served with a demand for payment by his creditors on 12 March, Blackpool County Court heard.

He had applied for a Individual Voluntary Arrangement, (IVO) to pay off the undisclosed amount, but the request was rejected by most creditors.

Among the creditors was SpreadEx, an online betting firm.

The company's barrister, Tim Gosling, said there had been no contact from Mr Hendry since the application for an IVO.

No figures were given by the court as to what Mr Hendry is said to owe and no court documents were made available.

But it has been reported that former Scotland skipper Hendry faces a tax bill of more than £1m and owes thousands of pounds to other creditors.

District Judge Michael Buckley granted the bankruptcy order.

Hendry was capped more than 50 times for Scotland and played for Rangers, Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers. He also managed several lower league clubs.

The father-of-four's wife Denise died last year, seven years after a botched liposuction operation.

sad loss

Yes very sad time for the poor fella

Bumped into him at Hope Hospital last year, he came over and had a word with my extremely ill relative ( South stand lad). What a top bloke, who was really caring and symphatic, especially considering his own families problems at the time.
CH is the epitome of what sportsmen should be like. A great role model, unlike some of the knobs in SA currently.
All the best to Colin for the future.

Sad story,great player,had a very tough time.Wish him
better luck in near future. Can we start a fund to raise
some dough for him as a gesture from City fans ?

Great player, great fella, but he's earned and lost more money than I'll ever have. And with an online betting firm one of the creditors, I'm sorry.

Its a shame for him and also a shame for all the companies he owes money too as well, particulalrly as they will have employees to pay who will never earn the sort of wage Hendry got even though it was a good few years ago, so as for donating money to him-the man who owes a gambling firm money!!!!!-I'm afraid I'm out!

Good joke that! He made fucking loads of cash and blew it all away gambling.

I'd imagine you'd also like to start a crack fund for Paul Merson.

Will a ten spot do for starters?
