Hey Blues. So I ended up in ER yesterday due to intense abdominal pain and when they did a CT scan, they told me I have some kind of colitis. I was discharged same day. However, when I looked at my reports, they said they found colon wall thickening.

I am looking up online what it might be and it can be anything from inflammation to Colon Cancer. I am a bit worried now. I also don’t understand how the doctor just mentioned colitis.

Any suggestions?

Don’t panic mate I’m sure if there was the slightest chance of cancer they would have you in for more tests and it just doesn’t help if you get over worried and googling stuff the internet is full of bollocks and I’d leave it to the experts.best of luck

Dont google it , things change as you age and if they thought it was important you would be having follow ups to look into it , relax

Thanks for the responses. I gave scheduled a colonoscopy this Friday and this will be my first. Will the doctors tell me immediately after the procedure if they find something sinister?

Where are you based?

The medical process after the exam may be a lot different depending on location.

Private vs public, different structures etc.

They should give you a full report on what they've seen. They'll then move on to 'next actions' and set out a plan for any future treatment required. Hopefully, you'll be 100% OK and back on form!

Don't worry yourself by reading Internet shite. You're in the best hands with the NHS, just follow their instructions and you'll be fine.

All the best!

Big Hypocondriac, I am.
Doc says something like that, my mind would be a machine gun.

In the end though worrying doesn't do any good,
At worst you suffer twice, at best you suffer needlessly.

Take the posters prior advice, its mostly likely an age thing. Hang in there blue.

If they find something suspicious during the colonoscopy they will tell you there and then. They might take a sample for a biopsy, or call in a specialist for a second opinion. Don't worry too much about the actual procedure, it's uncomfortable but bearable. You should be offered a valium shot (or similar) before and gas and air during if needed. I've found that the worst part of the process is taking the prep fluids and laxatives beforehand, and the resulting bowel quake after!

Good luck OP. Had numerous colonoscopies and other examinations after collapsing in pain outside Stamford bridge few years ago. My bowel had perforated and I was rushed in for emergency surgery. As others have said Google is not your friend in situations like this
