Combi boiler fans...

...no, not are you a fan of them? but has anyone had theirs replaced. How much did it cost?
Alternatively, if you are a plumber/boiler man how much would you charge? and what's involved?
Being charged £140, which seems a bit steep seeing as the fan is probably around £70.

Ours packed up the day before New Year's Eve, effin freezing in a big old house with no heat or hot water :(
Had to call an emergency fella out; he charged £75 :(
He gave it a bit of a dust down, quick few squirts of WD-40 and miraculously, it's still going :)
Is it definitely broked?

My worcester combi needed the fan replacing about a month back,the guy said it'd be about £240 ...although i was covered on insurance with it. Doesnt look like an excessive quote you have there.

Seems about right then. Let's say £70 call out and £70 fan.
Still, on the face of it he's charging £70 for what an hour/ hour and a half work!
Not bad work if you can get it.

Father in Law's Combi packed up yesterday. We have the cover with British Gas, so the missus phoned BG to see if we could get the old guy covered and get the boiler fixed. Expecting to be told to f**k off, we were pleasantly suprised when the guy said " Your dad can get a one off repair for £100 as long as he signs up for the £20/month cover" which he was goin to do anyway. It transpires that his fan and pump are screwed and they are goin to fix it. One disturbing thing was that the Gas engineer said his system needs flushing and it will cost £600!! The system has been in for about 8yrs from new, would it need a flush so soon? There is no way he is going to pay £600!!

a £600 power flush on a combi system. i would of thought it would not of needed it maybe on an open vented system.One way to check the system is to drain out one radiator on the ground floor and check the colour of the water,if the system had been cleaned and flushed and inhibitor applied when the system was installed he should be fine.
