Purely hypothetical, but during the 2011-12 season City had 21 players who started at least one game.
All 21 are still playing top flight football ,but the following players are no longer at the club:

De Jong,
Tevez
Barry
Balotelli
Savic
Kolo Toure
Johnson
Lescott
Pizarro
Richards

Now imagine if City hadn’t bought or sold anybody since.

Where would we be now in the League?

I think these 5 players are all definitely worse than they were during that season:

Balotelli
Kolo Toure
Johnson
Lest
Richards

I don't think I've seen enough of these players this season but can't see DeJong being picked by Pellegrini very often if he was still here. Savic was poor whilst he was here.

Tevez is the only player who I think would improve our squad now. I like Barry but Pellegrini obviously saw something he didn't like.


If that was the team we had for this season I think we would still be dangerous going forward but would concede a lot too. Maybe lots of high scoring draws like under Hughes?

All average or not good enough apart from Tevez

De jong and lescott were far better than average
