Complacency

There has been complacency but it's not just about Pellegrini is it?
We all know that he is a good guy. I am sure that he has done the best he can to the best of his ability.
The complacency exists at the top. They have been able to see what has happened. They've given MP the latitude to carry on the path he has set on. I suspect that Ferran, Txixi and the Chairman all thought that top 4 was safe, that despite the disappointment of the season, there was enough in the tank to keep the coveted CL place intact and ready for Pep's arrival.

I can't believe that tonight Fernandinho tweeted "we're in a battle for 4th now" and that was retweeted by the club. Do these fuckers not realise that it is not in our own hands anymore and hope that we swallow the lie?

That's fair enough but what do you propose we should've done? bring in a full time replacement and sacrifice our chance to get Guardiola when his Bayern contract ended? or bring in a caretaker for a year while we waited which lets be fair could've resulted in an even worse performance this season?
That's a good point. I think City have been extremely conservative playing a low-risk game trying to extend the shelf-life of this City team as long as possible. We could have tried to re-build Mancini's team under Pellegrini but I think we have just tried to patch it up and keep it going.

It's been very frustrating watching city labour against inferior teams with players like Toure who really should have been dropped, but Pellegrini has also had to contend with an appalling injury record. if we had had an average season in that regard then we'd be higher no doubt.

I found Pellegrini's press conferences dispiriting. They were a poor reflection on him. The impression you got was a manager who was out of touch and unable to captivate and influence. Klopp, Guardiola, Simeone, even managers like Wenger are communicators and you can see how they could influence the dressing room.

Been coasting for months. The intensity we saw today was better late than never, but had we shown that commitment earlier on we'd be much better off.
