Connecting flights/ luggage question

He'll be fine if he's booked with an Agent. I wouldn't worry about him also, my mates daughter went backpacking at 18 through Asia then spent a few months in Oz on a working visa, she met loads of people who became friends on her journey, she loved it, brought a different perspective on the world.

Hes already done a 3 month trip round vietnam, thailand and cambodia. He smashed it but was with a girlfriend, but this trip is solo
Once in aus ill be fine, he’ll be fine and i wont worry for one minute. But hes a natural worrier (like me) and this journey out will be playing on his mind

Like me , he hates uncertainty so him(and me :)) just need to KNOW its ok

I just did a dummy booking on Skyscanner and it came up with this. Ignore the return trip. It would appear that Cathay operate the flight to Sydney but it also has a Swiss flight number for ticketing and baggage arrangements. As long as it is booked like this he should be fine.Flight Up don't have the best reputation in the world though.

He wanted to book it all himself and i left him to it but i always do plenty of background checks with everything

Ive googled this best i can but the answeres appear pretty non specific so asking you seasoned flyers …

My son goes to aus on the 28th dec.
Flights are;
Swiss air : manc-switzwrland
Swiss air: switzerland - hong kong
Cathay : HK - sydney

His question that hes in a mild panic over is;

Does he just drop his luggage at manchester and collect in sydney or at any point of the connecting flights does he have to collect luggage and re check in. Particularly on the HK-syd flight where he is changing airlines?

And at any point does he have to go through immigration/passport control or does he stay air side throughout ?

Hes travelling alone which is a huge deal for him (and me as a parent) and hes in a dither over it. I want to re-assure him.
If hes in a dither/ill be in a dither :))

Question unrelated to your enquiry but why did your son decide upon such a convoluted means of getting to Oz? Did it work out significantly cheaper?

Swiss and Cathay have an interline agreement (this means that the airlines coordinate baggage etc) and the Swiss and Cathay flights from Zürich to Hong Kong have both a LX (Swiss) and CX (Cathay) code.

There shouldn't be a problem, he'll drop his bags at Ringway and pick them up at Sydney.

Looks like hes booked through a company called Flight Up.
