Hi guys,

Not sure if anyone can help me with this.

I'm searching on tinternet but in the meantime thought I'd post on here.

I have this morning managed to connect the Sky box to the tv in Ed's Bar (my cellar). This means I'll be able to watch the televised live games. Thanks to Shady providing links to certain sites (cheers mate) we are able to watch a lot of the non-televised games on PC.

I want to know how I can get my Sony Vaio VGN-N11S connected to my tv, so I can watch on a bigger screen. There's no s-video connecter (I don't think) but is another connector with what looks like a picture of a screen next to it!

Can anyone help me on whether it's possible to do and, if so, then what I need.

That other connector is probably a VGA connector and if your tv has the same connector on the back (it should if its a modern flat panel tv) all you should need is a VGA cable (male - male variety), they're available in different lengths and I use a 3metre one to connect my old pc to the tv.

Once connected you'll probably need to press some special key (usually 'fn' + some key at the top of the keyboard with tv symbol) to get it to output to the external connector.

Also you may need to connect and switch on the tv before powering the laptop up so it can identify the tv.

Thanks Doc,

Unfortunately I'm building my bar spending as little money as possible (overall outlay to date = £1.95) so the TV is an old portable and therefore only has scart and tv in connectors.

I'm looking for a connector/lead that would convert my VGA to something suitable for the tv, although I'm unsure whether the picture would be displayed on the tv using this method on my Vaio.

Hmm, I found this but no idea how well it would work and TBH you could probably pick up a 2nd hand PC monitor for less.

there you go the scart into the back of your tv and the vga into your pc but i must stress that you need to get a audio cable

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-Audio-Cable-Stereo-Premium/dp/B000JOM7N0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219107350&sr=8-1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-Audio-Cab ... 350&sr=8-1</a>

one end into the headphones on the comp and one end into the audio in on your tv but if because its old the tv doesnt have an audio in space you can play the sound off your laptop while watching on the tv or even connect it to speakers using the audio cable!

Have you actually tried one of those?
I suspect its more intended to convert from scart to VGA rather than the other way round as it looks like a simple passive cable (no sync conversion).

Okay... similar help needed, my lcd tee vee has a vga port. can I use this as a computer monitor (even though it's a 37 inch monster!?) And if I do will it fuck up the tee vee?

I believe you'll be alright, now just get out of this thread with your new-fangled tv - this is for dodgy old portables ;-)

there looks no problem no i havnt tried one but if it converts scart to vga why couldnt it do the other way round??? vga doesnt carry sound just picture so what would be the point of changing sound and picture to picture??

Most vga monitors will accept a wide range of refresh rates, an old telly is unlikely to be happy with any timing a pc is likely to output.

Should be no problem, thats what the port is there for. Have the tv connected and powered up before you switch on the pc.

It works a treat, I'm, now running my Tee Vee, Pee Ess Three and my Pee Cee through the same Ell Cee Dee Tee Vee.
