there must be a few on here that use 'em. I feel that I need to wear my specs more often and I'm thinking of giving them a go. Does the price vary dependant on your prescription? If I buy them over the net am I likely to get an inferior product? where's the cheapest place to buy 'em? Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Worn them for donkeys years and I pay 20 odd quid a month at boots for daily replacements. You can get cheaper deals but I get free eye tests, top service, good deals on specs, etc.

After putting them in for a month or so it becomes second nature.

I get mine form contactlenses.co.uk they are cheaper than the opticians and I order the same ones that the optician gave me.

Go and get a prescription first.

Then have a search round - I wear my glasses most of the time and lenses for the match, when it's raining and glasses would be a pain and if I'm watching the match in the pub. I buy dailies and 30 pairs last me for about five/six months.

I must say though, the dailies seem to feel a bit dry at the end of the day whereas the monthlies were fine after 16 hours or more.

I'd say go to a good optician and on their contact lens scheme for the first 12 months. It might cost you a bit extra but you'll have the benefit of their support and they usually provide extra lenses at no charge if you damage the ones you have. If you're on monthly lenses the chances are you'll need at least a couple of extra lenses in a 6 month period and maybe more if on dailies as they tear easily.

You would need to factor that into the cost of online lenses. I believe that it's illegal to supply lenses without a prescription so you'll obviously need to visit an optician anyway. Plus it's usually free eye-tests if you're on a scheme as well as well so it's not always cheaper to buy on-line.

The cost will vary depending on what you have - daily, monthly, standard, varifocal, tinted, etc - and you need the right solution as well.

my eyesight seemed to be getting worse so went to tesco in middleton for an eye test, my original specs are fine but they quoted me 40£ per month for lenses which seemed expensive, hence the thread. Thanks to all of you btw

I get monthlys 3 lots for £30 online

That's completely excessive. Is that just for bog-standard lenses?

I'm on monthly, top-of-the-range varifocals and pay £26 per month.

I've worn soft lenses since 1988. Always get the best quality, extended wear monthlies.

I go to Vision Express, sign up for their monthly direct debit deal. I show my union card and get a discount. (It doesn't matter which union you are in.)

Three months into the deal I cancel the direct debit and I now have three pairs of lenses that will last me up to a year as I don't throw them away after a month, only when I start to notice them getting 'older'.

The annual checks prove to me that my eyes are healthy and I save bucketloads.

I wear them every day and for up to 16 hours. I couldn't do all the above with cheap lenses though.

When the solutions that come with the lenses run out, I buy Tesco's own brand all in one.
