To be honest, I don't think I did. Mind you, I was only 20 ish and you tend to think you are invincible at that age!
I think it came out in the massive AIDS scare/publicity in the early 80s, and hemophiliacs were definitely mentioned as high risk (for obvious reasons). My blood transfusion was the result of an assault and nobody in the medical field ever mentioned I could be at risk. I guess it's like the people we are hearing about now, who did go on to become very ill.....they just waited. And then denied.
