Conti Cup-Manchester City 2 Leicester City 2 (H) 22/11/23 Match Thread:

She's good, she'd be great if she was a bit bigger, the Leicester keeper was at least 6 inches taller.

We drew, and get a point, but hard to argue that the first half was woeful.
I was referring to the fact we didn't take all the points as we lost on penalties

I'm not being pedantic here, but we wouldn't have taken all the points if we'd won the shoot out, 3 were on offer, we got 1, leicester 2.

The first half was abysmal, we were lucky they weren't out of sight at half time, but the changes made us much the better team second half, and with better finishing we shouldn't have needed penalties.

It was quite dreadful. I thought it was Groundog Brighton Day again. The second half was marginally better. We should have had that game wrapped up in the first half with the better than decent chances we had. I think Leicester had two serious chances on target and were 2-0 up. Nobody in the first half had a decent touch, we were always second to the ball, and Leicester passed between us for most of the game. There was a noticeable lack of urgency about us until the subs came on. I think we started with too many second stringers for a start. The rapidity with which we can process the ball from the edge of the opposition area to Keating is truly astonishing.

Esme spent eighty minutes being all over the show, couldn't work out what Ruby was meant to do, and Khiara on the ball seems to leave it to the last second that just adds to the level of palpitations.

And did we get a minimum of three minutes added time. I think tonight's whistling wanker manipulated the clock to avoid us having the corner. It took the best part of a minute for Leicester to change keepers and the original keeper went off at 92. We should have carried on till 94!

Cant argue with any of that, though we didn'y play that badly v Brighton, just had no clue how to finish, the first half tonight, we simply had no clue.

Hasegawa, and Hemp made a huge difference, made us look average.

Blew right on 3 minutes - I don't think it would have made much difference anyway, by then we could have played another 5 minutes without scoring.

Interesting that Stokes took the armband second half when she came on.

I must admit I didn't watch the first half, but was disappointed for the girls on seeing the second half, where they were better, in my opinion. That said, Leicester still missed a truly unmissable goal even in the second half.
Is it just me, or does anybody else find the turf at the Joie Stadium extraordinarily slow? It seems to slow down all passes, especially towards the end of the trajectory. By comparison, the Etihad turf seems slick and quick, and that suits our very rapid, one or two touch passing game.

There were one ot two passes in the entire game where a bit of pace was applied and I thought WhyTF don't you pass with that pace instead of the the normal laborious wait-all-day-for-an-oppo-player-to-intercept-or-press pass! Our whole game is slow, and yet we have pace as good as any team in the league. The ordinary teams in the bottom half must love playing us 'cos we make it rather easy for them - eleven cross country runners with a decent touch, an eye for a pass, and they can keep us at bay for 85 mins or so.

I think we will finish this season empty-handed 'cos we dredge up too many games like the Brighton and Leicester games. The frustrating part is that we outplayed CFC (and with nine on the pitch, eight when CFC got the equaliser), the Arse and the Ragettes and should have come away with nine points and not the four we got!

Three highlights from last night - Deyna's goal, my Cornish pasty and the flask of Bovril.

I've only seen the highlights but it's about time Deyna did that for us. She bangs 'em in regularly for her national team so along with working hard to retrieve the ball and assist for the 2nd goal I'm hoping it might kick-start her City career (if she gets the chance). Had high hopes when we signed her but it just hasn't worked out so far.
