Cook is completely ballsing up a tradition of general good spirit and co-operation that has existed between City and the press over the years and one which has served us well.
That got up and left on Sept 1st 2008. Or even when Thaksin emerged.

Well, yes and no. Even the presence of such a dubious character as Thaskin was subdued by the charm of SGE whose eloquence and obvious decency was great PR for us.

Hughes had nothing like the same presence - and indeed had a very uneasy relationship with the press- and any positive vibes that came out of the club were founded on the idea that the owners did things 'the right way' and worked with full transparency and integrity. I'm afraid Cook blew that notion right out of the water on Monday.

I don't go with the "fuck the press" lobby on here, either. I want us to be liked and on good terms with the press. I don't want to be as universally unpopular as United and as reviled as Ferguson. I want us to win things with integrity.

I have no problem what so ever with the way City/Cooke behaved in the sacking of the inept one.
I should hope that if it looks like Mancini is making a complete pigs ear of it(ala Hughes) that we start looking for and sounding out potential new managers.
How many would be on here calling him useless if on Manday we sacked Hughes and didn't have a replacement lined up?

Absolute nonsense,

1. The Rags are despised by the press, in fact they go out of their way to fawn over them, this despite what Ferguson does.

2. The press are there to sell papers, if (and when) we get successful they will soon get on board

3. I don't want us to be loved by all, they loved us when were the gallant looser, no threat to anyone

4. You really need to get out more, much of the press were saying that Hughes was not really any good well before he was given the boot, now the deed is done they and people like you are going on about integrity, it will be a cold day in hell before the press in this country can lecture anyone about integrity

Now you are talking.... it's true the owners sacrificed that whiter than white image... but the press had decided that long before Monday's presser.

We will get back on good terms.... but it's over-rated anyway. All the Top Four clubs have significant PR problems. Arsenal have the easiest ride but that will end as soon as one of the foreigners takes over. They are still viewed as stubborn, political, mean. Liverpool's owners are despised and the club pitied, Chelsea are feared and loathed, mostly loathed, and Utd's owners are the epitome of the leverage culture.

Which set of owners, which heirachy gets good PR.... villa? that's about it.

I love Cook, I really do and I think in general he is fantastic at his job. Since he has arrived, development behind the scenes has been very impressive and we now have resources to match that of any top club in the world.

I just wish he would shut his f00k!ng mouth.

Why would he be?

Destabilising another club is all part and partial of the game
And Abramovich did it to us last week when his mate Hiddink revealed he'ds been approached by us. Think that had a lot to do with what happened on the next day (last Saturday)

I agree with that point.

Agents are media-savvy. Hiddick's agent knew what a shit-storm he was creating with that comment. Hughes became a dead man walking as soon as that statement was made.

There has been a lot of duplicity and double-dealing over the last couple of weeks and a lot of stuff has gone on behind closed doors. Of that I'm convinced.

And I don't think the truth has outed yet.

Couple of weeks? This particular story wasn't merely a figment of this reporter's imagination I can assure you...

This, Cook has the most serious case of foot-in-mouth syndrome I've seen since that Ratner bloke and his "crap" jewellery. Time we appointed some sort of professional PR guy to handle media relations.

I guess they never really had that much confidence in the guy, and with hindsight you can see why
