I used to love listening to the 'Great American Songbook' on radio every Sunday night, with Andrew Castle presenting the show until it ended .... some great music was played on there, very relaxing.

I knew Father John and his wife, Bridget. I lived in Hulme and taught at St Philip's C of E. We had close ties to the Church of the Ascension and he was a frequent visitor. Bridget taught there, too. We took our classes there for all the big occasions. He was a proper character- loved Elvis, lol. It's a beautiful church and the bit they lived in, at the back, where Mendes took Sanctuary, was like something out of Grand Designs. Nice garden too, lol.
