I think we need to get away from shifting around this problem in terms of blame because if we're only willing to blame anyone but ourselves then the problem becomes entirely self-defeating.

For example, we need to build more houses but at the same time it's a fact that house building and development generally is destroying the environment. How do we reconcile this fact by blaming house builders or the people buying the houses? It comes down to two choices, you either stop building or you accept the consequences and carry on.

The reason it's so difficult to deal with climate change is because suffering is inevitable. At the end of the day we're asking people to be selfless and not selfish and that hasn't happened once in the entirety of human history.

It's no surprise then that COP26 is irrelevant because no government is going to inflict suffering on its own people.

Back to COP26, as has been stated earlier, she has probably done more than anyone to put this subject at the forefront of international concern and it is quite possible that her contribution to the worldwide movement for action will help those with the actual power to do something about it achieve a more ambitious agreement than otherwise would have happened.

But for some, they won't look past the fact that she's a bit shouty, uses rude words unbecoming of a teenage girl and drove an EV round Bristol for a day or two that might have incorporated a couple of kilos of Cobalt mined in Congo in questionable circumstances.

What do you do to decrease your carbon footprint and why do you leave it to others to do something about an issue you think is a problem?

Climate change concern has been around for well over many decades Westy but COP26 like the previous 25 have been a failure and nothing more than virtue signalling and for the past few Greta has been part of that failure albeit it in a childish way.

As for Greta she has done nothing but say if we don't do something which she never defines we are all toast this time by 2030.

Who has she influenced and in what way and why do you think the people she ridicules as being able to do nothing and have done nothing and will continue to nothing to address climate change give her nothing but lip service.

Kwarteng's defence of Johnson this morning was that all the other world leaders flew out of Glasgow. Have they forgotten that Glasgow is still part of the UK (probably not for much longer) and do they realise that comparisons with other leaders coming from overseas are just idiotic. I suspect they are aware of the stupidity of the argument but know that 40% of the population will just doff their caps at them and keep voting for being treated like fools.
 
My mate who works with me is up in Scotland today and tomorrow, mid point is Glasgow so looked for a hotel, I’d say £600 is average for one night, £150 for a hostel. Rerouted now to end up in Partick, hopefully a bit cheaper for a nights kip.

£260 cheapest, so we rescheduled and dropped down to the Lakes, will do the Glasgow ones next week. Partick sounds good so I’ll book him in there, cheers.
 
Young unmarried couple next door to me with a child just turned one. Lights on when they are not at home even in the summer, take away food delivered almost every day - so much for saving the planet.
