yaya's unique style, with his drive, strength, and creativity is sorely missed without him in the side, our midfield although still fantastic appears a little one dimensional, we pass the ball to death, when in some instances we could use someone in yaya's mould to mix it up a bit, to drive with the ball in a similar fashion, so who do we have, well to my mind the answer is simple, step forward kolo, a player who has many of the same qualities of his brother, can tackle, has heaps of energy and will do the one thing that when ya ya is missing and that is the ability to run with the ball for 30 yards or more.

we can shift micah into the middle and draft in savic or zabba when fit to right back.

i honestly think it's an option we havnt explored but one that would give our midfield some genuine energy in the absence of yaya, and one that kolo wouldnt be alien to considering he began his career as a midfielder.

thoughts?

Could work but lets try it in pre season not near the end of the league!

Does have many traits the same as Yaya on paper but the passing and tactical nous he is lacking i think.

i personally think the crucial element is getting the blend better in midfield to in effect help the creative players like silva and nasri, we need the pitch opening up for them to be effective, we dont want them picking the ball up miles from the opponents goal and creating from deep we need them buzzing around the opposition box making killer passes, ya ya's presence shifts the play further up the pitch, who else can do it.

-- Sat Mar 10, 2012 11:52 am --

Mark Hughes tried Micah in central midfield - one time was enough

kolo started his career as a midfielder, he can certainly plough forward with the ball, as good as ya ya, unlikely, but could it be an option, i think so, i think silva and nasri would appreciate the help.

One of the key attributes that Yaya has in midfield is his first touch and control.Kolo isn't close to good enough in that area.(he isn't actually close to good enough in any area for me in midfield but the first touch is the most outstanding)

A 100% no from me

This was my first real critique of Mancini, this season; the over reliance on Yaya. It reminded me over Mr Hughes' over reliance on Tevez as it broke up the team's unison. The same could be said of Silva and Kompany, but then, we're talking about the spine of the team, aren't we??!!

I don't think the driving runs are the biggest loss when yaya is out, it's the continuity of passing and where that passing is taking place on the pitch. Simply put, he keep the ball moving, to the right players at the right time in the right spaces. So efficent. Without him we give the ball away more, and even when we keep it well, it's with a heck of a lot less purpose. It's funny now looking back at his first dozen games, lazy was the shout, but that economy and efficiency is now central to cities most dominant style of play.

I'm on record here as an advocate of developing and promoting youth. (I don't, for instance, support having 4 superstar strikers - one has to be internally developed and given a chance over the season as part of the squad). For yaya I see no 'understudy' that can be bought, it needs to be developed. You can't buy xavi and have him sitting on the bench (or more realistically, whomever the next big thing in central midfield is going to be).
