Hasn't the UK given the vaccine manufacturers a free pass on payouts for side effects? Not sure that's true in other countries, so one has to wonder.

Dunno. There was talk of this, and also talk of negotiations on price vs liability (why would AZ take on huge liability without profit; completely the opposite for Moderna who are raking it in). I think there's a general fund in the UK for all vaccine related injuries too? No idea how it all landed.

Hasn't the UK given the vaccine manufacturers a free pass on payouts for side effects? Not sure that's true in other countries, so one has to wonder. Sweden has approved AZ for over 65s today, balancing the risk.
Why does one have to wonder? The reason the Government gave those assurances was to get the development of the vaccines started as quickly as possible by giving extra confidence to investors and vaccine developers. That’s also partly why the AZ / Oxford vaccine is offered on a not for profit basis and is the mainstay of the global vaccine fund.
