Yes I'm well aware but nonetheless we'd be in a better lower position. The effect of the new variant has been and will be devastating

Yep but positive messaging is absolutely essential. People are tired and unhappy. Switched off, just trying to get through it.More like stay at home , dont go out unless you really have to and dont mingle outside of your bubble
He really should have read the riot act and closed everywhere but essentials down , starbucks for example is not essential
Why are a load of Queen’s Guards travelling to Coventry?![]()

46,000 positives reported today, and 7 day trend looks down.
That is very, very good news indeed, in that it suggests that current measures may be sufficient to suppress the new variant, which was far from certain.
Not definite yet, of course, shouldn't over-react to one day's figures, but makes the worst case of running through the whole population ahead of vaccination look a lot less likely.
Lockdowns work. Whoda thunk. Now, consider how many fewer cases we'd have if they'd done this Dec 20th when it was obvious it was coming.
Agreed. I stupidly went to Lidl the other day and instantly regretted it. Trollies aren't wiped down, too many people allowed in and very few wearing masks.Well that's me shopping at Morrisons this Thursday.
Now people are back at work, people will surely be less doing tests on spec. Serious cases is what matters.I appreciate the optimism, but surely one days worth of info isn’t really enough to judge whether the lockdown is working.
could easily go back up again tomorrow. After a week would be a better comparison in my opinion
We don't need the clown walking about the wards and getting in the way of our NHS staff,ok.
Why are they trying to catch them out all the fkin time!! Just give it a rest!!Press doing their usual gotcha questions. Kate Ferguson at the Sun what a twat?

And all this - "are restrictions going to get harder?? ", how about we do this - if you think they should get harder than tighten yo on what you do. You don't need to wait for someone else to tell you.
Some people are one of those that sit in bed thinking "christ, if someone doesn't shout me soon I'm going to be late for work!"
Take things into your own hands and don't wait to be told. If you don't need to go out then don't ffs!

It's better to ask 'Please make this effort now, it will help more people stay healthy throughout - including you, and help the economy'. Sell positive outcomes. Anything that people can actually have a hand in, things they can keep in mind that will help. Sell them properly.
They've got to be positive. Helplessness and fatalism has set in as a way of coping, I see it every day in things that are written, from newspapers to forums. People who I would expect to be much smarter are giving up, switching off.
Carefully crafted positivity is the only antidote. It's more popular and effective. It's been shown many times over. More people engage, and fewer are upset, by statements carefully framed positively. Feels like were a bunch of cloggers and half-arsed amateurs, depressed by that, as much as anything else. I get that people are suspicious of this stuff when it's overdone or used inappropriately to cover people's arses, but it absolutely has a place when asking people for help or consideration. At the moment, they are just covering their arses via other means that are pretty transparent for me - keeping the base happy, in effect. I don't know how aware they are of what they are doing but it's quite convenient. The stuff the base wouldn't like is negative. The stuff they do like is positive. The problem is that the stuff they do like, no-one can do anything about. It's the bits they don't like, that people need to buy in to.
About time, good on ’em! And on Morrison’s too for stopping people with no masks from entering their stores. My local Tesco an hour ago had police up and down the aisles after folk who have no masks on. A refreshing sight.
It fits with having journalists running the Countrythe press in this country get worse by the day. What has happened to quality journalism??
I hope the police had masks on.My local Tesco an hour ago had police up and down the aisles after folk who have no masks on. A refreshing sight.
I think it’s the right message but not said quite right.I really don't get why they think that's a good message. Acting like you have COVID first of all means isolating. That's not what they mean. And obviously people who have to work etc can't do that in general. So they've sent a message that's obviously contradictory.
I also think the concept of asking people to imagine they have an illness is dubious. It's a negative, depressive thing. It's counter productive. People who are ill stop thinking about anything apart from themselves, keeping warm, etc. What they need from people is mindfulness of their actions and those of other people. Many mindfulness practises are actually designed to get people out of that inward facing state of mind, even to help them get rid of unwanted thoughts, mindsets and anxieties linked to when they were ill, or believed they were. It's about bringing people back into the light.
I think they need to ask people to make sacrifices and, yep, be mindful. Aware of everything they are doing. Think about what they can do more safely or differently. Remember the guidelines. Err on the side of too much caution.
That's a positive request. Focusing and purposing your awareness is linked to positive states of mind. It gets people to tackle something, gets them thinking about themselves, their environment and others. It says, everyone can do something.
Daft thing is, people like this stuff. They see it in others and it becomes infectious. I think it's one major difference between now and last year. Everyone was making space and showing concern for others. We should be fighting to get that mindset back.
Act like you have COVID.... uhh. Meaning? Don't stay up? Have a Lemsip and a hot bath?

They should all be staying out of hospitals! No one should be in them who isn’t either sick or works there. The press could be taking anything in with them, it’s unnecessary as we know people are being vaccinated we don’t need to keep seeing them. Are you moaning that the PM was in a hospital today promoting the vaccine? If so where were you when Starmer was on the Marr show yesterday, couldn't he have done that interview at home?

2.6 million jabs now.
