For comparison Wales - also low in patients and ventilators in single figures was never at zero and is actually right now pretty much as low as it has ever been in ventilators and patients were only out of the 40s for a few days mid Summer.

England only got below 1000 between 25 July and 17 September and never went below the 400s. It is currently at 1278. But the North West is ahead of that schedule and about a week earlier in its numbers.

It only went briefly into the 50s in ventilators in late August/early September and is currently at 188. Though again North West is ahead of the England numbers by about a week.

Scotland have changed definitions of Covid patients too often to make easy comparisons over the year.

More on the 13 (or 12) England hospital deaths:

Regions: East 3, London 3, Midlands 3, North West 2. South West 2 and NE & Yorkshire & South East both 0.

Nowhere had more than 2 deaths - East Suffolk and Leicester had this.

And the North West ones were 1 each in Manchester and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre on the Wirral.

All 13 were aged over 60 - 7 of them over 80.

Here are the 7 days total deaths from England hospitals for past month (up to 24 April - last with 5 days data).

Wk 28 MAR - 3 APR ////// 19 - 28 - 29 - 35 - 17 - 17 - 19 /// Wkly Total 164

Wk 4 APR - 10 APR ////// 17 - 11 - 12 - 18 - 28 - 16 - 21 /// Wkly Total 123

Wk 11 APR - 17 APR ////// 14 - 25 - 18 - 9 - 13 - 13 - 18 /// Wkly Total 110

Wk 18 APR - 24 APR ////// 14 - 11 - 16 - 14 - 15 - 15 - 6 /// Wkly Total 91

Do not need to explain what is going on with these numbers.

First five day totals in a week since mid September that add up to under 100 across the 7 days.

For completion the remaining days since 24 April are currently:

25 April - 13 at four days

26 April 8 at 3 days

27 April 6 at 2 days

and yesterday 28 April sits at 4.

So the deaths with all settings England to add and any reductions for UK is 20 . It was 29 last Thursday.

And cases for the three nations is 342. It was 413 last Thursday.

22 All Settings deaths

2445 cases - up 279 in day.

Was 2729 last Thursday.

But that is from 1, 335, 120 pillar 1 & 2 tests today

Almost double the 710, 937 yesterday for 2166 cases.

Yet very similar to the 1, 355, 479 for the 2729 cases last week,

Regional Cases Today

Cases show up or down on yesterday and the v number is versus 7 days ago.

SOUTH

East UP 43 to 181 v 222

London UP 50 to 307 v 376 (London still below the NW)

South East UP 22 to 250 v 257 (South East well below the North West now)

South West UP 41 to 144 v 127

Every southern region up modestly and week to week most are down bar SW.

MIDLANDS

East UP 30 to 196 v 253- down wk to wk

West UP 41 to 225 v 242 - also down wk to wk

Seems to be improving here.

NORTH

North East UP 5 to 94 v 99 (Still lowest region in England and only sub 100).

Yorkshire DOWN 2 to 367 v 430 - Only region to FALL today - by 2! - adown week to week though.

Still the largest region but very consistent - 4 of the last 7 totals have been 362 - 361 - 369 - 367.

NORTH WEST UP 35 to 314 v 300 . Still behind Yorkshire but the gap narrowed and up week to week - though not by much.

Even so it is looking possible NW could become the most infected England region again on current trends.

Greater Manchester was also up week to week - but only by 2 of the 14 week to week rise - which is outperforming the region again.

GM was however up on the day by 23 - which is OVER the average from that NW rise of 35.

So not really a good day for the NW. Though not a disaster. The % of GM from NW only rose by 1.6% in day to 52.5%

Case increases over recent days im the West Midlands are all down to workplace transmission according to BBC local TV news at lunchtine. A couple of LA public health bods were interviewed and they reckon it's people going back to work in offices mainly.

Myocardial Inflamation in young men after vaccination.
Dr John has information on it today from Israel and the US.

Applies to both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines
Mostly men and mostly under 30.
Chance roughly the same as clots for AZ vaccine (so very rare)
US hasn't really got down to under 40 males yet although it has started.
Dr John guesswork reckons men will be given AZ jab women Pfizer/Moderna.
Moral of the story don't exercise after if you have any sort of chest pain

I await the EMA response with interest. Also Dutch and Danish responses - if they are consistant all currently deployed vaccines will be suspended while hundreds/thousands die of Covid.

Greater Manchester Cases

165 cases today - up 23 on yesterday.

But this is up week to week by just 2 from 163 last Thursday.

So mixed day for GM as the numbers show below.

Manchester is back on top rising by 12 on day to 35 - identical with last week.

Salford in second is big surprise - up by 16 to 27 which is up 7 from last wk.

Bolton drops to third down 1 on 25. Though that is up 10 week to week.

These three boroughs are why GM is not doing as well as it was. Though it is really only Salford and Bolton over par in their scores. Manchester is doing well and expected to be top scorer given its population.

Oldham also high up 9 on the day to 17 which is two down from last week.

Trafford happily fares a little better today on 13 - down 7 in day and 3 wk to wk. Trafford rose to 6991 so looks sure to be the last GM borough to enter the 7000 club over the weekend.

Rochdale stays on 12 - for the third day running which is down 1 week to week.

Wigan on 11 is down 6 on the day and7 wk to wk will have dented its Pop Score lead of GM. .

Tameside up 1 to 10 on the day which is also up 1 from last week.

Which means only two boroughs were in single figures today:-

Stockport stays at 9 - which is down 4 week to week. Again cut the deficit to Trafford for overall Pop Score to 162.

And who else top but...

Bury down 1 to 6 - but up 1 from last week

Weekly total cases:-

Odd to see Trafford - which had the lowest cases for so long - now third highest in the region and over 100.

Bury 50, Stockport 64. Tameside 69. Wigan 73, Rochdale 77, Oldham 90, Salford 108, Trafford 108, Bolton 166, Manchester 206.
