In Israel, people starting to appreciate that science really cannot stop Omicron and that other government measures will have precious little effect.

Well science has yet to stop any coronavirus so why would it be able to now?

Not what some want to hear and I’ve little doubt the slurs will be slung at anyone suggesting it but hey ho…

Be careful as you’re in dangerous territory of being called anti-science, anti-vaxx and a ‘covid denier’ with statements like that!

As for your statement, its not just Omicron but coronaviruses in general which cannot be stopped by either of those methods you mentioned..
I don’t think anyone on here would accuse him of being anti-science, anti-vaxx or a Covid denier from what he posted. It wasn’t even his opinion, it was the opinion of people in Israel.

Plus nothing anyone has done has been done to stop Covid, just like it’s not done to stop flu. Maybe it’s an extreme unrealistic bonus if anything did stop it, but it’s been done to make sure as few people die, get seriously ill, or have long term complications following having Covid as possible.

no, they aren't. You're just applying a minority subset to the whole group. None more selfish than people demanding mandatory treatments or punishing them by taking away freedoms they're entitled to in a civilised society.

what next? You did something unhealthy in your life and got a weight, drink, smoking, excess sugar related condition and we decide "na, you should have behaved according to how we dictate you should behave, you're not getting help". We can all throw stones, but there'll always be more people to throw them at us than we can throw by ourselves.

Nobody is entitled to freedoms, in fact your freedoms are curtailed to allow what you refer to as civilised society. Otherwise you’d be “free” to kill, rob, assault etc - All the things opposite of a civilised society. In reality you want some freedoms and not others - It’s akin to the Amish who randomly decided on a point in time to lock themselves in to when neither too little nor too much technology existed. It’s arbitrary nonsense.

New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and a few others adopted a ‘zero covid’ approach which means ‘stopping covid’. Johnson, only in January, met with the Indian PM where he talked of working together to ‘eliminate covid’. We have been locking people up, without trial, for 10 days and charging them £2000+ for the privilege because they happened to be in the wrong place when we decided to ‘stop them bringing the virus in’ presumably in the belief we could intervene?
Biontech CEO stated last year that the vaccines would not only prevent illness but stop covid being transmitted. If only!
I would imagine many people thought of the vaccine like the polio vaccine and it would eliminate coronavirus, helping with the ’we can stop it’ message. Truth is we could have mitigated it in a lot better, more focussed ways than we have, without massively making the poor and vulnerable even poorer and more vulnerable.

Sounds an awful lot like 'focused protection' which was roundly mocked when suggested by top notch scientists in the Great Barrington declaration.

My dads tested positive. He saw his pal over Christmas who tested positive so he’s got it from him.

67 and diabetic. Had his booster etc so hopefully he will be ok.

He’s got 5 days to isolate left, said he feels a bit fluey but nothing too bad.

He’s mostly grumpy that he can’t go for a pub lunch with me this week now.

Guess you're not a fan of basic human rights then.

A leading scientist has said the prospect of people attending parties without being tested for Covid amid a lack of availability of lateral flow devices was “very worrying”.

Professor Peter Openshaw, who sits on the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (Nervtag), said the conditions at a New Year’s Eve gathering were “perfect” for spreading coronavirus and that people may end up mixing over the New Year without being able to see whether they are infectious.

The government is scrambling to secure supplies of tests to meet a surge in demand as people try to comply with guidance to limit the spread of the Omicron variant. On Thursday morning, home delivery slots for lateral flow tests were unavailable on the GOV.UK website.

Happy New Year folks

At some point we’ve just got to stop obsessing over this.

Omicron is that point.

At least people get to enjoy themselves and have a more normal New Years, which is the main thing.
