Anecdotal evidence

Mum and Dad both 60's - triple jabbed
Sisters Bf - immuno compromised - double jabbed & dose of covid
Brother and his pregnant GF - double jabbed & dose of covid

All had it over Christmas period, their experience was like a bad cold, happily all better now

Sister and myself who are triple jabbed and a previous dose of covid, spent hours with them in doors the days before they came down with it and didn't catch anything.

Seems the booster and a breakthrough infection might be best protection
That's bloody great that everyone is OK..long may it continue

The way Omicron has obliterated Delta in no time and the huge transmission rate it has means that everyone who is going to catch it will do so very quickly. Any further restrictions now are meaningless in my view as at best they will only have a marginal effect on case numbers. We will know in a matter of weeks what the outcome of that will be as this will have ripped through the population by then and case numbers will be a fraction of what they are now.

Fingers crossed but this is the end game of the pandemic I reckon and then Covid will become just another endemic virus we live with.

Restrictions were always meaningless for Omicron. One twat without a mask in a supermarket is a superspread event.

Uness it's a Chinese style total lockdown where the authorities are prepared to let people die in their own homes then masks in shops, social distancing and so on are just meaningless sops to a section of public opinion.

Nothing is going to stop Omicron so we will have to accept a brief tricky period whilst millions are catching it.

There's a Christmas Lectures series on the I player I think about viruses by the Royal Institution. 3 episodes about an hour each. I've seen the first 2.

1 - General talk about viruses
2 - Testing. How it works. Masks and aerosols. Modelling.
3 - Vaccines

JVT presents it with guests

It's aimed at curious kids and parents. All good. I think most of you would know it all but even so enjoyable. I liked the way they explained what are difficult topics to children.

I’ve followed all the rules with Covid but is it just the right thing to do now and just lead a normal life? I think nearly everyone will be exposed to Omicron so is it worth isolating if you get it? I’ve posted before, my Dad is 89 next week, had a heart attack at 53 and takes medication to help. I asked him if he wanted his small family to test as we are in daily contact with him, categorically says he values his time with us over catching Covid.

I watched the Paul Whitehouse and Bob Mortimer fishing programme over Christmas, a Doctor Patel said loneliness is as detrimental on health as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
Being on your own doesn’t mean you’re lonely

Completely healthy again on day 9 but been left with no taste or smell. Guessing it'll comeback in time and compared to how some people have been affected by it I've gotten off quite lightly. Finally have our ''Christmas'' tomorrow. All the presents still under the tree ready for the daughter coming in the evening.

Yep.
Thank goodness the original Covid wasn't as infectious. It would have been horrendous.

Respectfully I beg to differ, I still work and I still see my Dad as much as possible. He lives across the road from me and sometimes when I call around he’s desperately lonely. I spend probably 20 hours a week with him but he’s very sad most of the time, he only perks up when me, Mrs H and my Sister and BIL turn up.

Cheers Marv. I’ll give those a watch. I always love the Christmas lectures.

While as a general rule, alone = lonely. I think his point is that some people are fine, and even thrive being alone while others will feel lonely in a crowd.

In Tenerife at the moment and a poor couple I know were going home today to Manchester. The bloke and his daughter negative but the wife positive, no symptoms at all. They all did their own tests in the apartment first, all negative. He paid for another test thinking it was a mistake but still positive. He has had to get another apartment, fly home today with his daughter then he's flying back. Gutted for them.
