Coronavirus (2021) thread

There was a protest against the Government’s Covid measures on Museumplein, a demonstration that had been banned on safety grounds but which was attended by around 10,000. There was trouble as it ended and as some moved to a rally held by the right wing FvD. The riot police were supposed to have been on strike today as well.

Can’t we just appropriate the Isle of Man and send all non vaccinated adults to live there? Lovely beaches, harsh penal code and pretty decent motorbike racing track. If whizzing around at 170mph in a sidecar with some covid infected **** doesn’t appeal, we could always offer them another alternative: the Israeli Army. Tell them you don’t fancy this jab thing.

If you like. Someone asked and I told him what is well known about ALL vaccine hesitancy. If you’re not interested and think everything in life is a binary choice, good on you.
It is binary choice.

You/One can either be part of society and take the vaccine or you can be a poorly educated (not thick as you note) selfish fucker and not bother.

As 90% needing oxygen right not aren’t vax’d then I guess I’m happy either way. I just wish they’d gasp for air at home rather than adding to the strain on the health service.

Where I live over 94% are double vaccinated (and that number are expected to also get the booster now they’ve started doing them), apparently education levels are far higher in the Far East. Or maybe people are less selfish. Who knows.

Anti vax mate. Some Scottish muppet on twitter said so, so it must be true. Mind you, if he’d said vaccines might not be safe and people posted it, they’d be criticised for getting their ‘news‘ from social media. Irony alert is strong tonight…….

Isnt it amazing how quickly a lot of people have accepted or demanding authoritarian rule? Fantastic stuff.
If your house is burning, would you describe the fire fighters as authoritarian stooges, too? They damage your house with water, crush windows and doors or even put you on their shoulder escaping the fire, no matter how much you declare you want stay in. You can throw lines like yours around when COVID is under control but the politic does not change. In Germany we just had a very peaceful change of governments, though. Does not smell very authoritarian if you ask me.

Are they ‘anti-vax’ or protesting against the Dutch lockdown as they’re 2 very different things? I only ask, as it seems like you‘re cheering on riot police against people protesting, which shows what a slippery fucking slope we’re currently on.
Depends on whether the protest was a peaceful one or a violent one. If it was the latter then you reap what you sow. Funny how there’s never any outrage in the wider world when football fans play up and the TAU wade in cracking heads left, right, and centre, often dishing out disproportionate punishment.

it's true though. the vast majority of the things you listed are to do with the mental attitude of the person. That mental attitude is "I'm alright, sod the rest" attitude or "I'm too scared to step up and help others even though I might hurt myself" attitude. Any member of society has to be part of the society anyone who doesn't want to help others are not worth saving

get rid of the 7 day isolation for NHS staff then
Its those testing positive thats the issue. My daughter has to test every day as long as shes negative she goes in. Many of her colleagues are off with covid, she’s covering 2 departments, with no restrictions more would have it, more would be off, wards would be closed.
Besides which, how are current restriction difficult in any way whatsoever.
Good news however, they now only have 1 in icu with covid, and nobody new has been admitted to icu with covid for a couple of weeks. Doesn’t help the full wards situation though.

Every death is an absolute tragedy in this pandemic, looking at what the whole planet is doing at the moment it looks like the death rate is starting to fall from mid December. This is when the more populated Northern Hemisphere is in the middle of winter. Daily infections are going the other way and sky rocketing.

Is this omicron becoming the dominant strain which is providing this trend or vaccines and anti virals that are being rolled out? Could we see a point where the pandemic is scaled down to endemic in 2022?

yes I know, why would a positive test mean you have to stop working. If it's to protect the public then that's just mostly for the unvaxxed so what's the point anymore. I've seen enough of the figures to see we can handle 500k+ cases a day probably 3 times more than this in reality. So why not just go for it

I think all 3 (plus previous infection) mate

Because the more cases there are in one day, the more people that go to hospital in a short period, when the hospitals are already full and short staffed.
Better to have 2 million with it over 3 weeks than a few days, simply because it it gives people a chance to enter and leave hospital over a period than all at once as stays are shorter it seems. Seems very simple to me.
Just going for it is a gamble might be alright, then again it might not, doesn’t seem a gamble worth taking to me, maybe ask the hospitals themselves, for the sake of a few weeks of fairly minuscule restrictions.

Im all for freedom of choice in life but I just don’t get, nor accept any decision not to vaccinate.
Couldn’t agree more. I don’t get why people still smoke, take drugs, don’t get their kids vaccinated against measles, drive drunk, eat shit food all the time, give themselves diabetes and a myriad of other things but telling them they’re loonies who don’t know what they’re doing probably isn’t the right way to go.
I seem to remember the establishment tried that with a referendum in 2016 and that didn’t end as the establishment presumed!

I do wonder whether Gove ever reflects on his “I think the people of this country have had enough of experts with organisations with acronyms saying that they know what is best and getting it consistently wrong?” Especially as he does seem to be the chief agitator to bring in more restrictions based on experts with acronyms!
