I agree that the infection numbers do seem relatively high in the uk based on our levels of vaccination compared to infection numbers in some other countries. I don’t know what the numbers of vaccinated are in the Czech Republic as mentioned earlier in the thread, but they started on their vaccinations later than in the uk. Perhaps we have waining antibody levels compared to the Czech Republic due to this, allowing for greater uk infections? One things for sure, the government have moved on now, fighting a different fire about the Afghanistan situation. In two weeks time, there will be something else that they will have to fire fight. COVID has dropped down the list of priorities now, and if and when it goes pear shaped, they will start fire fighting it again.

I think we're at around 60% double jabbed. We are doing 12-15-year olds as well but that is only around 20-25% vaccinated.

Thanks. Your vaccinations started later than in the uk, so people there may well have higher levels of antibodies compared to people in the uk, especially those who were vaccinated earlier in the uk in December/January/February. Population and city density are also probably a factor. All just speculation of course :)

That's an interesting theory. We didn't really get going with vaccinations until well into February.

We're a smaller country with a lot smaller population but I'm not sure how our population density compares.

No big surprise but the article is written in a misleading way to suggest the deaths were recent when the last fatality was many moths ago.

There’s no urgency to get vaccinated without sufficient cases to scare the population. That’s human nature.

Where was that? You shouldn’t have had Pfizer if you had AZ first, according to all the JVCI guidelines anyway.

Don’t frighten me now it’s to late.
I had AZ in Jan and had a bad reaction so had all the relevant Allergy tests and that’s why they gave me Pfizer last Friday. Nothing no symptoms at all you could say it was great but everyone different

There is a great deal that puzzles me and troubles me in equal measure:
we are one of the most advanced vaccinated nation in the world yet our infection rate is one of the worst. How come?
our over 50's are pretty much double jabbed yet in Scotland, just last week, 180 people from that age segment were hospitalised. How come?
Dumfries and Galloway is one of the most vaccinated areas of Scotland yet just now it has one of the worst infection rates in Europe. How come?
If anyone has the answer please tell me because I am really starting to feel uneasy about the level of protection the vaccination programme is giving us. And I know that being vaccinated is supposed to cut your chance of infection by approx 70% and then even if you are infected the symptoms are reduced and the chances of hospitalisation or death are almost eliminated. You can pass on the virus if you have been vaccinated and subsequently are infected. That is what we are being told.

The latest research in the Times last week (sorry no link) was based on 700,000 people and said that around 50 per cent of those double jabbed with AZ in the UK would still become infected with Delta, worse than the original predictions,which were based on the Alpha variant.

Didn’t mean to scare you mate. Bad reaction to one would mean they gave you the other one, it’s just not something they recommend.
I think the AZ scare stories are going to have some effect though because there’s a surprising number of older, and therefore at higher risk, adults who’ve just not gone back for a second jab.

Having been to the game last weekend, I'll be shocked if we don't see a lot more posters coming on this thread to tell us they have COVID this week.

The concourse seemed like the ultimate breeding ground for the virus.

Looking likely that AZ retains its efficacy longer than Pfizer based on Israeli and UK studies, and 4 months after the second jab its efficacy overtakes Pfizer's.
