Coronavirus (2021) thread

We've been managed just shy of 500,000 second doses. Which I believe ground to trickle a fortnight ago.
And Prof Whitty gave his reasons for that that he descibed the reasons as "Not very difficult maths" i.e: Loads more deaths than the alternative, the alternative being a 12 week gap between vaccinations.
I know medics complain about the approved process being sidestepped (my daughter does) but not doing the alternative would be a disaster.

That’s all I’m doing mate, other than having to walk 6ft to the loo but I put this off as long as I can as I can’t stop coughing when in get in there. I’m annoying thr nurses asking for top ups on the water.
City game is repeated this afternoon so I’ll rewatch that but it’s constant bed for me for the last 3 days
Not read all this thread last few days but I just want to say I wish you all the best, I know what a rough time you've had recently, in the right place now and fingers crossed for a full recovery.

Naturally ill be called a doom monger when I share a perfectly legitimate article that isn't 100% positive at some point though!
A small fall. Good news a think though it shows vaccines will have to be rejigged going forward - but we knew that anyway.

I was making a positive observation. In other words we've got a very good sample of double doses now. Most of which would be at least a fortnight post second jab.

Just in case it’s not been mentioned
This has bypassed me completely, never even heard of this one? Also, have we not ordered some of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which I believe is nearly approved?

Looks like the new variant is less Asymptomatic than the 1st strain. More people are getting sypmtoms with it.

Less likley to have loss of taste / smell.

Cough/Fever/Fatigue/sore throat, more likely than old variant.

Stomach pain the same. diarrhea close but slightly more common than the old version.

Its the inactivated virus (traditional) vaccine one that did trials at English universities. I think this is targeted at people under 50 due to a higher chance of side effects.

Yes, I think one is in the news because of the start of manufacturing in the U.K. we initially ordered 30mil doses of J&J. It’s possible this has increased but I don’t know that.

We've ordered something like 370 million of various types, including the J&J and Valneva.

Production before approval has been standard for all of them.

J&J is thought to be going to regulators maybe next week. Not sure about Valneva's timeframe.

Valneva was reported as 60M, with an option for 130M more.
Valneva's own website suggests approval will be in Q4, so it's not going to change anything for 9 months or so. It's still in phase 1/2 trials.

J&J should get its Phase III single-dose data next week, so two weeks for it to analyse its results and then submit to FDA, two weeks for it to analyse the submission, and then hopefully give its approval. All times approximate.

Aiming for big supplies to US in April, and Europe probably from early summer onwards. Confident of producing 1 billion doses this year.

Its double-dose trial remains ongoing.

I think people have to take personal responsibility if they don’t take the vaccine and own the consequences. £ Millions are being spent on community champions when 3 million people have had sweet FA.
The problem is, it isnt just a consequence for them. If you live in an area where, for whatever reason, you have communities where vaccine take up is low, yours could be last schools to open. spend longer in tier 4/5/6. Whatever the 'punishment' will be for having higher cases. I can see it causing a lot of resentment

I had my first AZ jab yesterday under East Cheshire NHS Trust a bit earlier than I thought. Despite large numbers It was very well managed both in and out of the centre with volunteers marshaling the queues and car parking and other jobs such as taking temperature with one of those gun things. Doc informed me l would be called forward in 12 weeks which seems a long way off but they have a lot more people needing a first jab plus the priority people for a ssecond jab.
Well done to all concerned. The only problem was waving to a blue I've not seen for years as he drove out. He didn't recognise me. Well he wouldn't l had a bloody mask on;)
