something i thought of before,i have had my first pfizer jab with work with the second in april however if like some are saying that we will probably need a booster every year would i have to have the pfizer jab every year or would they be able to give me the az jab.

I would have thought any brand could be used as a booster.

Swiss company Novartis offering its services to produce more companies’ vaccines, and Biden likely to use the DPA to force US companies to help in the fight. Need more of such from countries around the world.
Yep, as others have said it’s not a competition, the more vaccines produced the faster the world can get back to some form of normal, international cooperation is the basis of any success.

Very quick comment on the German over 65s story.

1. Not a surprise, and same approach taken by FDA in the US (actually FDA more stringent still and haven't approved in younger people either yet).

2. Problem is NOT that efficacy shown to be low but that insufficient older people in the dataset to show either way. Additional trial is being run to address the data gap.

3. Not a concern scientifically: the UK justification was
(i) Good efficacy shown in other age groups
(ii) Excellent immune response measured in older people, equivalent to that in younger, and as good (actually better IIRC) than Pfizer. Efficacy comes from immune response.

MHRA and several other authorities worldwide believe this shows sufficient benefit/ risk to approve. EMA/FDA require formal efficacy data.

Regulatory agencies taking different views on this sort of issue is not unusual.

Main issue is communication for people elsewhere taking the jab, not the decision itself.

My parents are due for vaccination today, based on all of this I'm delighted whichever they get.

Turns out my parents got the AZ jab today.

Been reassuring my mum about the German headlines...

I want mine now!

Not a bad week all told - parents safe, City win, United lose, top of the league. Sweet.

We really don't know if you will need a booster yet. Nor do we know which vaccine you may or may not need to be boosted with if you do. The chances are quite high that any of them will work to boost but we don't know.

GM Scoreboard:

1203 - up from 1097. 32.9% of North West Total which rose by 319 to 3648. 0.1 % fall on yesterday,

3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v Today:- 1737 v 1917 v 1337 v 1203. Still downward path. Looking promising.

Pop Score is cases across whole pandemic v 100,000 people - rises daily but lower the better.

Weekly Pop is same measure across last 7 days only. Can rise or fall depending on if more cases or less occur today v the same day last week.

Either way Up is bad, down is good.

Manchester 270 – up from 247. Total 44, 934. Weekly 1854. Pop score up 49 to 8128. Weekly Pop up 3 to 336.

Bolton 159 - up from 83. Total cases 21, 249. Weekly 846. Pop score up 56 to 7390. Lower cases than last week despite daily rise so....Weekly Pop down 2 to 294.

Wigan 134 - up from 109. Total cases 24, 517. Weekly 953. Pop score up 41 to 7460. Weekly Pop down 4 to 290.

Salford 103 - down from 126. Total cases 19, 383. Weekly 834. Pop score up 38 to 7487. Weekly Pop down 15 to 321.

Oldham 103 - up from 93. Total cases 19, 743. Weekly 617. Pop score up 44 to 8327. Weekly Pop up 10 to 261. Still best Weekly Pop score though less good day today.

Tameside 99 – down from 101. Total cases 15, 013. Weekly 695. Pop score up 44 to 6629. Weekly Pop down 12 to 307.

Rochdale 93 - up from 84. Total cases 17, 928. Weekly 628. Pop score up 42 to 8061.Weekly Pop down 4 to 283.

Stockport 86 – down from 108. Total cases 17, 052. Weekly 800. Good day here. Pop score up 29 to 5811. Joint lowest on GM today. Weekly Pop down 15 to 272.

Bury 85- up from 56. Total cases 14, 609. Weekly 547. Holds onto lowest weekly total. Pop score up 43 to 7649. Weekly Pop up 2 to 286.

Trafford 71- down from 90. Total cases 14, 095. Weekly 622. Pop score up 29 to 5938. Shares the lowest Pop score rise today with Stockport and so no change in Stockport's overall pop score lead of 127. Weekly Pop down 18 to 262. Just 1 behind Oldham for lowest GM Pop score with Stockport only 10 further back now and back in the hunt on all the records. These two towns may be back fighting one another for best numbers and not big numbers. Guess we will see.

The flu jabs change a lot year to year because flu mutates pretty often too. You get what you get when you get it and have no clue who manufactured it. Be same here year after year I expect for those at risk and needing an annual Covid update.

That is where the Johnson and Johnson one will earn its way. A single jab with the flu jab will be far easier to administer each autumn with the one shot flu jab. Having to schedule every over 60 for two separate jabs of Covid and the flu jab will not be the preference for obvious reasons I suspect.

Quite likely they will be able to just have a one shot booster of the others, of course.

Either way if the J & J one works many nations will prefer that now - let alone next winter - for logistical reasons.

Just got my appt for my 1st vaccination, going on Sunday. Was surprised got it so early, tho I am 56 and have COPD. Also just got an email from work stating that Bolton council are offering our staff without symptoms, to take a weekly test for covid, over a six week period.
No surprise on that really, considering we have over 40% of the workforce having covid/self -isolating over the last 2 weeks, that's out of 1100 staff over 3 sites....

Lateral flow tests are included in these figures?
According to gov.uk

Copy and paste job>>

Virus tests conducted

Number of confirmed positive, negative or void COVID-19 virus test results. This is a count of test results and may include multiple tests for an individual person. Virus tests test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus and include all pillar 1 and 2 tests and any virus tests undertaken in pillar 4. Virus tests include PCR tests conducted in laboratories and lateral flow device tests that give results in less than an hour, without needing to go to a laboratory.

This was like nothing I’d experienced before, it was like having flu without the mucus, but I was freezing cold and my body was aching from my shoulders to my feet, with a splitting headache and unable to walk properly.
I mean I’m 49, I’m still a young man and it knocked me for six.
Put it this way, I don’t think I’ll be having the follow up.
Come on man you need to have it. Book your appointment online.
