I don't disagree with that at all, but I'd question why your frustration here is with Sage and not the government. Sage will be equally as frustrated.

I'm frustrated with the government, even now they're still cocking things up massively. Sage because there will never be a perfect scenario which they seem to want. In bad flu years we can have up to 60,000 die in this country alone. We don't stop everything, go into tiers etcetera because sage warn it's going to be a bad flu year and if we did we could save lives and stop the NHS from being overwhelmed. Now I know this has been a lot worse than flu and totally agree with most of the measures so far. However, at some point we have to get on with our lives.

You have wildly inflated the flu deaths

Bit rich for Fergus Walsh to decry hysterical media headlines; the BBC has been guilty of the exact thing over the last two days.

The media love bad news. They have demoralised the nation most days with that drumbeat tune then the big boom in-between each more depressing headline. I stopped watching it ages ago but inadvertently the odd one catches me unawares. It's got to the point my anxiety goes through the roof if I realise it's coming on and I'm scrambling for the remote to switch channels.

This , the backlash against the media is stupid , the variants are big news and worrying to people
It isn’t stupid, the media have to very careful to report properly researched and balanced information, not least to give people confidence in the vaccine.
The last day or two it hasn’t been balanced, or responsible. Jeremy Vine in his ‘ if I’m not making you miserable or scaring you to death, I’m not doing my job’ show today was a prime example of terrible unbalanced reporting of the vaccine and variants. He wasn’t alone.
Hopefully Van Tams more reasoned thoughts will be better reported.

Government and authorities need to be more savvy, however. British news on a Sunday is driven by Andy Marr’s programme, which in turn sets the tone for Monday.

Gilbert was able to handle Marr’s science questions yesterday, but Zahawi was his usual bumbling self. Need to have someone on hand on Sundays to extinguish media fires.
