Do what Norway does perhaps.

Crisis there today as cases reach all of 10% of our level.

Response:

Shopping centres and other non-essential stores will be closed from noon local time on Saturday, organised sports activities will be halted and schools must rely more on remote learning, the health ministry said in a statement

We've been way too late all through this.
One of the better however more aggressive responses is to establish green and red zones as they did in Australia. The movement of people around the country is a prime reason why spread is so effective.

We live on an island so it should be very easy. Close the borders, establish internal borders (aka zones with enforced tiers) and then track and trace within the red zones, surveillance via random testing in the green zones.

We have tiering already but it's completely pointless when the tiers are not separated by physical borders. In November I could travel from Tier 2 to Tier 4 with no rules whatsoever to prevent this and that defeats the object.

Australia reported 5 cases yesterday.

saw that awful.

coppers teachers and supermarket workers should be treated as key workers and jabbed
i would also add binmen who have been doing a great job around here keeping our bins emptied even when short staff due to covid. If bins werent emptied you would trouble with the smell and rats etc

I still thinks it's a total scandal that in the middle of a pandemic with all the knowledge they had the government introduced the subsidiary meal scheme , effectively flooding bars and restaurants with future ICU cases and unfortunately future deaths . There should be a criminal investigation when all the dust settles, gambling with the nations lives and nobody seems to have called them out on it .
We were told that pubs and restaurants were safe to go back to in July, as long as we complied with track-and-trace washed our hands, sat down, and kept our 2m distance. That suited me as someone who loves pubs, and until table service meant that I sat where I was told I'd always plonk myself as far away as possible.

(Reported) cases stayed low through July into August and then exploded in September when schools and Universities went back, though I'll accept that Eat-Out-To-Help-Out will have played some part.

But I might have felt rather different about visiting pubs daily if I'd seen this report about transmission back in July;
