Some bloke on newsnight last night, think he was a scientist, said he's expecting a final figure of between 150,000 to 200,000,because the same amount of people will die going down the slope as going up it. Shocking :(
He probably has not heard of the vaccine programme

I'm surprised that people find these numbers shocking tbh. You only need to look at what previous pandemics have done around the world and while the medical and data-sharing sides have massively improved in the last 50 yrs since the last one, our lifestyles and desire to travel is seemingly cancelling a lot of it out.

if this row kicks off with the EU,could we still manage production in wales with the supply of raw matterials to produce it, i would assume it would delay the roll out with no incoming supplies from Belgium untill we upscale
EU are mad because they've been briefed there will be limits to what can be supplied.

The delay stems from a significantly lower yield of product than the process is capable of which has rightly triggered an internal investigation. Compounding this - the batch won't be sent for release testing until resolved and release testing takes ~54 days.

I've seen the master batch records for the UK supply chain and we won't be affected. As I've always said, the supply is there for the UK and anything you hear to the contrary is hot air.

Lots of politics about at the moment. EU hasn't even approved yet and there are concerns internally they may turn the screw a bit on some smaller points as a show of force(?). Their loss.

Probably, but there are a lot of things that could upset things between now and then. At the moment, the EU thing is purely contractual between them and AZ, with a few extrapolations as to what "could" happen, often by people with little say in the matter - it's been overegged from a couple of comments, coupled with some inflammatory and poor translations of comments.

(Wales is only the bottling site; it's made near Oxford and Stoke).

while i except that statement from him we have to remember this virus is not going anywhere, yes the vax will help but there will always be vulnerable people who will fall victim to this and that it will be with us untill its fully eradicated and thats even if its possible, this situation could go on for years even decades, how they mangsge those figures once this is stable is another thing, we and our immunity in the long term may be the real answer to the end of this where your grandchilds children have developed a natural immunity, but as slur said 'not im my lifetime'

Lets hope we can squash that rate of infection even more and get these vaccines out to as many people as possible .
That 4 per cent figure suggests we are close to getting it under control. Just one big push for the next few weeks including closing the airports should get us there. The deaths are still shocking but they have to reduce as vaccinations grow.

Certainly looks like the bizarre desire for a “normal” Christmas is now playing out before our eyes
well the mrs was telling me the other day a house up the road had a very large xmas party and then a new years party probably more than 100 people in and out during that week, the reply they gave when questioned was get fucked we do what we want, the owner of that house is now in hospital being vented

Same happened to a family from up the road from my parents n’all.

They had people in and out from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day (days longer than even the 5 day Christmas the govt were originally going to give us). I believe Police were called a few times by a few different people... the woman from that house is now dead! She took ill in early Jan and two weeks later died in hospital.

They had that same attitude, didn’t give a shit, wouldn’t have mattered if the govt had fully cancelled Christmas as they’d still gone ahead and just done it all anyway.

Presumably there will always be Covid deaths, just as there are with flu, but hopefully we can keep them at a tolerable level. There are about 165,000 cancer deaths and 170,000 heart disease deaths in the UK every year. Of course a contagious disease like Covid is different but we should reach an accepted level which allows the country to function normally. My hope is that the scientific breakthrough with the new RNA vaccines will also lead to life-saving treatments for cancer and heart disease.
