Coronavirus (2021) thread

I find it quite funny the people who jump on the media bandwagon for faster opening up when the Government’s timeline is designed to make this the last lockdown (fingers crossed). I assume the posters have just finished swearing at Megan Markle and Harry on TV (I haven’t watched that shite I’m afraid) and got worked up because we haven’t heard off some posters in months. we are only a month from beer hardens reopening so try to be patient.

Think there were people on here mentioning about being 55 when the NHS national link bizarrely was at 56 and over, just to let anyone know that they’ve now amended it and it is 55 and over.

Same media who would then say it’s opened too quickly

Tedious? You should try reading your posts on this thread ;)

I am not spinning anything. I don't need to. It is self-evident what you are stating in your posts. Subtlety is not a strong point.

Still, I cannot remember one person wanting a permanent lockdown. I doubt anyone has ever said that.
Those people do exist, but it isn't those who are urging a bit of caution before we open things up. No, it's the tin foil hat wearers who think Covid is a hoax and a global conspiracy to control us forever more. These people absolutely do want a permanent lockdown because that's the only way their claims will have any credence. As such, they're totally shitting it at the prospect of all restrictions being lifted and normality returning, despite claiming that's what they want. And when that normality does return, I'm going to take great delight in ramming their shitty conspiracies right back down their throats.

I’m hoping/expecting to get the text/call in the next 2 weeks, that’s where my head is at.
I’m 50 and got the invite from the local Primary Care Network / GPs over the weekend (I’m in Leeds). Vaccinations are progressing at a decent pace and if the quantity of doses falls a bit this week that’s only a temporary issue before supply is ramped up.

FWIW, I got the first jab a few weeks ago (for social care volunteering) but it was still reassuring to see how quickly the vaccine roll out is going.

Beer hardens are not for everyone...the patch of scrub grass outside my local will no doubt be pressed into service...for those punters who like freezing their balls off and sucking in diesel fumes to compliment the session.

Lockdown fetishists are those who love lockdowns and want permanent lockdown.

they are not the vulnerable although there may be vulnerable amongst the lockdown fetishists.

lockdown fetishists are blind to the damage of lockdown and only see the benefits of lockdown.
So just a few fringe loons then. Hardly worth making the point if that's all you're on about.

Is a beer harden the opposite of brewers droop?

Published in Nature today if you are interested. I don't think it's new. It'll just be more detailed. The vaccines are Moderna and Pfizer. Similar effect expected for all E484K mutations.

From what I can see the 10-12 fold reductions refer to neutralising antibody titres. They are not saying that the vaccines are rendered ineffective but they are making some quantitative assessment of the quantity of neutralising antibodies produced by the vaccines against this variant.

You better check for yourself, and do your own readings if you are interested. I expect this will hit the news soon.

That'll be getting some people in this thread positively turgid with excitement.

I heard on the radio this morning that there will be 500k Oxford / AZ jabs per day from next week and this will bring forward our timetable for vaccinating over 50s by a fortnight.
If you'd told me in November my parents would have had 2 doses by early Jan I'd be getting first jab on 14 March I wouldn't have believed you. Fantastic progress.

I've come round to the pace and timescale of Lockdown release, as has my lad who's a barber in central Manc. Having a firm(ish) date in April at least allowed him to arrange something useful rather than sitting around frustrated.

Better days are just around the corner..

I gave the beer garden example as I think that’s a big issue for a lot of people who want the lockdown to be accelerated. I probably won’t be back in pubs as soon as they open but they are important to a lot of Communities.

we usually get some decent weather by May and I will have had both jabs then so that’s when I’m likely to be enjoying the beer gardens.

good man. My own venue selection would be limited...i either drink in town or my local...neither places as blessed as lets say...Cheshire...for delightful external drinking spaces. I do see a lot of discarded soda syphon canisters around though so obv classy joints abound.
Getting me first jab this week. Hopefully i will be belly up to the vault bar in no time.

I'm one of those people, I travel round the country blogging about pub life and I see how important they are for communities (not just lonely saddos either), but I'm fully behind the staggered pace of re-opening.

The bigger gripe has been with financial support for pubs, particularly the ones that don't rely on food. Let's see how many survive through to May, possibly more than feared.

Beer gardens will be fun for a month.

its tedious that anyone who dares say that normality must return in the long term is painted as some evil bastard happy for people to die.

the uk currently has the harshest restrictions in the world. We are also releasing in the slowest possible way from lockdown. We also have one of the best vaccine roll outs going. It is absolutely correct that when the adult population has been vaccinated that we should be back to normality. Apparently, it is taboo to say that. Anyone who doesn’t want to return to normal in those circumstances is mentally deranged. The vulnerable are always more susceptible to all sorts of illnesses not just covid. They normally live with an increased risk but don’t hide at home they live their lives so why would they want to continue to hide when the adult population is vaccinated?

shout out to any vulnerable on here, if you haven’t been vaccinated yet, get yourself booked in. You are eligible.

Lol. If you actually believe that you need to actually look at whats going on around the world. we're certainly at the top end right now due to the new strain but far from the strictest. Our lockdowns havn't been strict at all compared to some. Greece alone you still have to text the Gov for permission to go to the shops or leave the house for excersice.

FWIW I’ve chipped in to a crowd funding campaign for my local. I’ve been pretty much on the wagon for 4 months but I do like going to the pub for a drink. Particularly when I’m going to watch the rugby league or after seeing City. Quite a few bars have opened near me in recent years and I hope they will carry on when things reopen.
