Coronavirus (2021) thread

Vague and possibly incorrect recollections follow:

Novavax haven't submitted final data and don't anticipate full scale production for a while (you need both production data and clinical trial data for approval).

J&J sumitted a couple of weeks earlier in the EU (it's normal for major markets to be prioritised) - UK approval imminent.

Yo're right about Novavax not having filed for approval yet.

Talking about the J&J vaccine, I know we've ordered an initial 30m doses, and with imminent approval for use i assume this would be factored into the recent roadmap announcements by the government and indeed the interuption as mentioned yesterday? For example, if and when this is approved, are we still likely to see that fairly significant interruption to our vaccine programme or would this speed the whole thing up again?

It 100% helps in not passing on the virus to others. It must do when you look at what the vaccine does do. Yes, it doesn't stop you catching the virus, it stops (in the main) the symptoms of the virus.

What's the main transmission method for the virus? Coughing.

Therefore, if the virus stops people coughing it must help in reducing transmission.

What can't definitively be said at the moment is that the vaccine itself stops transmission as there's not enough evidence for that.
Hope I didn't miss the irony but THAT would be easy!

You'll have to add loud or extended talking, singing, sneezing etc. to the list and there we are... :(

Wales data:

4 deaths - was 12 last week

297 cases - was 195 last week

positivity 3.8% today - was 1.6% last week

(However. 99 of these today are apparently back reported cases from two months ago and half of those from the North Wales area Betsi Cadwaldr health board - which is the region around the Rhyl / Prestatyn - Wales say they have fixed the issue that led to this happening already so it is a one off.)

Weekly Pop score 43 - was 43 yesterday - was 43 last week.

Wales vaccination update:

1, 180, 155 first doses given - 22, 904 today - was 17, 385 yesterday & 14, 931 last week

304, 411 second doses given - 15, 226 today - was 16, 202 yesterday & 15, 508 last week

what happens if you have a dependent who obviously isn’t vaccinated but you and the wife are concerning holidays abroad

All second jabs due in April will be given, Matt Hancock making speech in parliament just now.

12 million of them.

No weeks in April with no new first doses.

Also explained it is supply from India AND added that a 1.7 million batch that arrived this week that has had to be sent off for safety checks due to our rigorous safety programme. He did not specify the manufacturer or reason.

Boris Johnson will give a press conference / briefing later it seems.

Those long term shielding are being contacted by letter to be told shielding WILL end at end of March.

So they are communicating with us and the main thing is that the over 50s get seen to first and the first dose programme still continues. Look forward to being updated.

That would imply 12 million doses were administered in January, which they weren't.

Those from the first few days in February also. My 12 weeks is up in first week in May and I had mine in second week of February.

And the 12 million presumably includes those who need the second Pfizer dose from the first one in March. As that is 3 weeks gap only remember. So those who had this last week, this week or next and the first week in April are due their second one in April too.

You never answered my question would they be allowed to go
Have a look at what you posted mate.

I am not sure there is a clear answer to your question atm. I don’t think it’s worth the risk of booking a foreign holiday if your party is going include somebody who hasn’t been vaccinated.

No impact to the road map for relaxation will be caused by the supply issue Matt Hancock says in parliament.

Nobody who has a first or second jab booked already for April will have it cancelled.

The Pfizer also went to 12 weeks. My daughter recently received hers which was originally due in early January.

He has not yet explained btw what make is the 1.7 million does being retested for safety checks and why there is a concern.

It certainly has not in Wales from friends there who have had both in past 4 weeks. Perhaps they have taken that decision unilaterally. Or it is based on degree of vulnerability?

Though I do recall that they decided the 12 week gap for Pfizer helped that work better too. It may be devolved to the nations what to do with their supply.
