N Ireland data:

1 death - was 0 last week

107 cases - was 181 last week

5.2% positivity - was 6.1% last week

6 Care Home outbreaks - up 1 on yesterday - was 6 last week

Rolling weekly cases total 846 - was 915 yesterday - was 1061 last week

112 Patients and 9 ventilators - same as yesterday - was 143 and 10 last week.

So with no data coming from Wales today the UK case numbers WILL be low for that reason alone.

So wk to wk comparisons will be meaningless unless you take that into account.

The total from the TWO nations today is 521 - last week it was 724 - so a big drop for Scotland and N Ireland wk to wk.

Wales added 190 last Friday. And 201 - 171 - 125 - 94 - 60 - 188 on the days since - so you can guesstimate from those we likely are not talking more than 700 or so today with England to add.

Total deaths for the 3 nations (without Wales) and with England out of hospital to come are - 48.

Last week Wales added 3 deaths.

So we are hovering around 50 again.

Wk to wk: - 352 v 199 v 152 v 94 v 52 v 48 (+)

Anyone think this road map out is too slow?
Here we have another great weekend yet people can't stay in hotels, yet we have 35 million who have had 1 jab yet we're still living with a lot of restrictions.
Seems very draconian to me

Beer garden in 10 days..we're getting closer

How does being vaccinated stop the spread of the virus?
With our immune systems killing the virus, it reduces the viral loads that can replicate across different cells. With lower viral loads, there is less virus to spread and less chance of people becoming ill or seriously ill. Eventually, there wouldn’t be enough humans without antibodies to infect, the virus wouldn’t be able to replicate.

Small pox and, soon, polio, are two examples of successful vaccination programmes erasing diseases.

I wish we were opening quicker (pub gardens looked very appealing this week), but we seem to be pretty much where we need to be in terms of hospitalisations and infections 10 days before the 3rd major opening.

Seems as if the pace is exactly right, and in tune with the pace of vaccination.

No, they've got the balance just right at the moment. incredible achievement with our vaccine rollout and drop in numbers - you can go visit your family or Friends outside, have a beer and a catch up.
week or so, pub Gardens all back open, the gyms, swim pools etc.
it's all looking very positive

Yes but isn't there an argument that they could have deferred the easter break? and give us 2 bank holidays say in September or something?

The point I'm trying to make is that their is a 4 day break yet not much to do or places to go. Just seems such a shame, I'm sat here doing nothing and bored.
I love the lakes but whats the point in going if you can't stay?

With our current % of population vaccinated the vaccination neither stops us catching nor spreading covid 19.
A passport makes no difference.

Not for me.

There are a number of people who don’t fall into high risk groups who haven’t had the jab yet but who could get seriously ill or die from Covid. The obese or those who undetected or undiagnosed conditions, for example, who are well down the list.

There’s enough of the virus still around and enough people under threat from it to just keep things under certain restrictions.

Just open things up gradually, don’t allow large gatherings, be patient... we’ll get there eventually.

Trafford recorded the 3rd biggest increase in the country of cases, up 70%
The mind boggles, with all of this. How is this happening?

Due to being vaccinated, your immune system doesn’t allow the virus to replicate in large numbers across numerous cells in your respiratory system. Therefore, your viral load will be much lower and your chances of spreading a large viral load to somebody else is greatly reduced.

A lower viral load in someone else gives them a greater chance to fight it off without getting ill. And greatly reduces their chances of becoming seriously ill or dying.

Multiply this across the population, and the risk of spread, illness and death is reduced.

Well I definitely agree we could have done with a later 4 day break (and a later Christmas). It's frustrating to see everything closed when you've got time on your hands.

That first pint on the 12th will be worth the wait. Hopefully an early opener !

Greater Manchester summary

Cases down by 64 to 250 - lowest GM total in 2021 and for 6 months or so other than one that was caused by mislaid data a week or two ago which later got added on.

No reason to think that here as everyone down so not a regional anomaly as it was then.

% of NW total falls today to 56.2%

Every borough scored between 12 and 43 today.

Trafford reasserted itself with the 12 and a big drop week to week that will boost its Pop score.

Manchester tops at 43. Only ever lower in 6 months on that day they missed a bunch of cases on the day and added later. Well down wk to wk.

Salford 15, Rochdale 17, Bury 19, Oldham 20 - all great numbers and down week to week - Salford and Oldham by a lot.

Bolton at 41 still struggling a little and nearly beat Manchester today but that is still down wk to wk.

The others were Tameside on 29, Wigan on 28 and Stockport on 26 - all well down wk to wk - other than Stockport which was down only modestly and by recent standards in a day of good numbers only did OK when others did really well today.
