GM WEEKLY POP SCORES

Remember low scores good - going down good - high scores bad - going up bad

WIGAN 372 // 289 // UP 83 WAS 269 (up 103)

TAMESIDE 454 // 433 // UP 21 WAS 315 (Up 139)

Bolton still alone in the 200s - just.

Manchester's good run of cases means it is on course to overtake Bolton for top spot.

Tameside is clearly in most trouble BUT it has started falling in past days for the first time in some while.

Stockport fell too and moves up a place and is now the only GM borough going DOWN week to week.

Numbers are fairly flat and the spread from best to worst is narrowing daily. Which s a good sign.

Manchester still a long way back of the other boroughs.

Hospitals in Cornwall suspend surgeries amid 'high' COVID admissions

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust has temporarily suspended routine and urgent surgeries in its "main hospitals" in order to cope with COVID demand.

Its medical director Dr Allister Grant said the NHS in Cornwall remains under "continued pressure" as COVID admissions remain high.

He confirmed there are more than 40 people in the Trust's three hospitals with COVID currently, and nearly 50 contacts isolating at home.

Mr Grant said: "Our staff are working flexibly and extraordinarily hard to help us care safely for the higher numbers of people in hospital with COVID.

40 people in 3 hospitals and they cancel urgent surgery seems strange decision?

Alongside West Midlands (DOWN to 534 / 761 FROM 589/831), South East (DOWN to 569 / 690 FROM 608/735) and East (DOWN to 522 / 682 FROM 556 / 725).

Scotland TOP is DOWN for the second day running after a while going up - now on 896 / 1179 FROM 916 / 1208

Hopefully that downslope is the start of one much bigger than recent one's which haven't lasted long. Not sure how much, if any, TRNSMT festival at Glasgow Green will have, but that's a better looking graph than it was a week ago and if it continues then hopefully it should be reflected in daily figures over next week or so.

37% of Americans have had no vaccine at all. They make up 97% of all hospital admissions and 99% of all deaths.

Amazing some idiots are still anti-vax isn’t it.
Too many seem to be taking the words of Patrick Henry literally: ‘Give me Liberty, or give me Death’. Tragic.

SCOTLAND DATA

10 deaths - was 11 last week

4298 cases - was 6152 last week Good drop here

10.9% positivity - was 11.9% last week

985 patients - up 8 on day - was 670 last week

83 ventilated - up 1 on yesterday - was 58 last week

NORTHERN IRELAND DATA

3 deaths - was 7 last week

1424 cases - was 1812 last week

ALL WE GET AT WEEKENDS

NO WALES DATA ON SATURDAYS

156 all settings deaths - looks like a big England hospital number again,

BUT just 29, 547 cases - even with no Wales that is low

Just 23, 825 in England

Down from 29, 614 England last Saturday.

The Zoe App falls are being matched for real in England and that is a surprise this week.

Once again all the panic on here and guarantees of massive rises has proven to be misjudged. First it was restrictions being lifted then it was kids going back to school. Hopefully a sign that this is practically over.

ENGLAND REGIONS

EAST FALLS BY 237 - TO 2329 V 2674 - DOWN 345 IN WEEK

LONDON FALLS BY 168 - TO 2857 V 3593 - DOWN 736 IN WEEK - AS ON ZOE LONDON DOING VERY WELL

SOUTH EAST FALLS BY 339 TO 3077 V 4681 - DOWN 1604 IN WEEK - ANOTHER HUGE WEEKLY FALL AND STILL BEHIND THE NORTH WEST

SOUTH WEST UP BY 478 TO 2277 V 3316 - DOWN 1039 IN WEEK - ONLY REGION GOING UP TODAY

THE NUMBERS IN THE SOUTH ARE VERY SURPRISING AND MOSTLY WHY ENGLAND HAS BEEN FALLING

AND

NORTH WEST FALLS BY 444 TO 3411 V 4102 - DOWN 691 IN WEEK

GM AS A PERCENTAGE OF NORTH WEST CASES

AND UP FROM 36.2% LAST WEEK - ALSO NOT THA GOOD A DAY WK TO WK IN GM EITHER

It was not just on here - most scientists expected an increase from children back at school. And the rise in numbers testing in that group shows there has been. But it seems to be being matched by a drop on older ages that did not occur in Scotland. Though might be starting to occur there now after a week or two.

I would not say it is yet certain there will be no impact from school returns as more mixing indoors goes on when the autumn sets in.

But certainly so far - early as it is to be over confident - things are not looking that bad.

Though I would not yet assume it is practically over. But will be very happy indeed if you are proven right.
