Coronavirus: Football Discussion Thread

The thing is, if it's spreading this fast among the PL just how fast is it spreading among the general population?

I honestly think they’ve underestimated it. I saw that the infection rate is faster than Ebola virus (obviously nothing like Ebola of course)

I think the government are banking on the majority only showing mild symptoms if they do get it so not really encouraging people to avoid places unless sick
Scary

It seems quite clear to me that between the Premier League and the PM they are playing cat and mouse my guess is for insurance reasons if the government suspend the league the Premier League has a better case for claiming back any losses. If its the league they don't

All that being said there is a personal cost I found out last night that my middle daughter has all the symptoms of this, her younger sister returned from China over the weekend... We really need to start taking this seriously and not sleepwalk ourselves into thousands of deaths

Arsenal - Full Isolation, Arteta tested positive.
Chelsea - Full Isolation, Hudson Odoi tested Positive.
Everton - Full Isolation
Leicester - 3 players self Isolating.
Man City - 1 player self Isolating.
Newcastle - Players showing symptoms, had to cancel training.
Watford - Players showing symptoms had to cancel training.

That's 7/20, the only possible option is to suspend for now.

Who’s next to go down
Only a matter of minutes isn’t it before another club announces

At this stage it's nothing to do with football, rivalries, who wins what.
It's crazy not to suspend all major events now. It's very harsh on Liverpool in particular, but it's not just about them. If it was us I'd be gutted.
But there are all the other leagues too, besides the PL.
This should be a decision for the good of the national health.
Part of your collective action strategy.

I can't see any other decision, other than suspending the leagues. If it get's as bad as some predict, then it will be cancelled.
The euros will be gone too.
This is bigger than football.

My view is that "finishing the league" also involves a lot of nothing games played by crowds players who haven't trained for 6 weeks in front of crowds where season ticket holders will have passed away and everyone else probably knows someone who has died.

Everton putting additional pressure on the authorities to postpone the games. I'd be amaized if any games were played after the weekend for the next few months.

Won’t be any this weekend mate in the premier league. Just the FA and Premier League are as useless and the government but they’ll have to announce this weekends fixtures are all postponed sometime this afternoon.

I’m sure there were good reasons for Arteta and Hudson Odoi to be tested. Probably been in direct contact with someone who has it. But it did make me wonder if footballers are subject to the same restrictions on testing as the rest of us?

LIGUE 1 POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

The LFP have announced that Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 have both been postponed indefinitely.
