For gas, electric, water, TV licence, council tax etc. Anyone live on their own and can give me some rough estimates on what they pay each month?

I'm a high electricity user and thinking of going all electric as rarely use the gas.

Eldest has just moved into own flat. prices down here may not be that helpful, but for her when she was doing her sums she reckoned it will work out at around 100 per month all in.

I ended up paying about £50 a month electricity, £20 a month gas, £40 a month water although as I didn't have a meter that was much higher than I actually used. Then £35 for internet including the line rental. Council tax depends on the band but you get a 25% discount for single occupancy, shouldn't be more than £75 a month or so.

That was the average October-April just gone, but was a 3 bed semi not a flat. From when I lived in a flat in town it wasn't wildly different to that though

Food is the big killer on the monthly wage.

I went to the shop before to get a few bits and spent nearly 40 nicker.

Three fifty/month thats not horrible at all. What would a one bedroom flat cost to buy??? Maybe one very near to Manchester center and one in a decent area a little way from town???

I went on Friday to do the "big shop" for the month, £218.98 (though 3 cases of Bow, and bottle of Vodka, and a couple of cooking utensils were included in that, now all I have to buy each week is two two litre bottles of milk and a loaf.

Make sure you get a meter you can pay quarterly on, rather than a key meter. Or that the landlord doesn't mind if you change the meter over if it is a key meter. Costs bout £50 down here in Bournemouth to change over. TV is about £12 mth I think. Council tax will vary depending on area. Maybe £50-£60 mth.

I think you need to get on confused.com or something then because I dont spend that much on a 2 bedroom house and have full Sky and 50M Virgin Broadband
