Could City help out on this?

You will be surprised how often this shit happens, An open aged team I played for when I was in my late teens the treasurer did the same thing with club funds the fucking twat, needless to say the police weren't required

What I don't understand is why clubs allow one person to control the bank accounts any monies of that club, we learnt from our mistake and made sure we had 2 signatures required on future accounts, simple but effective

City won't do anything as it isn't in a poor area of LA or New York.

Whythenshawe? to close to home for them to help out sadly.

Bit of a sh*t thing to say when they sponsor my son's school for computing, player visits and I know they provide some kind of meals-on-wheel deal for a community of elderly people.

Dunno what you mean by your post.

He's hacked off that City are spending money on community projects in America - he thinks we should only do community projects in the Manchester area. I'm guessing it's a throw-back to that youth football infrastructure thread where people are moaning that City are building new pitches in the USA when they should be building them on local parkland.

Correct that it was a throwback comment from that thread, but I don't think that City shouldn't be helping out impoverished areas around the world, it's just were I live is classed as Greater Manchester and the footballing facilities are shit (in my view) or atleast should be better, and although clubs may be helping out? I've never been aware of the big clubs contributing - this includes the rags, bolton and blackburn.

The facilities should be alot better, and the facilities I've seen City build in other countries look very good. I wish they would build something like this in my town which has shitloads of Blues, who on a weekly basis, watch City all over the country.

Having been involved with local football. within the Mid Cheshire Sunday League, for many a year, I am surprised that the Committee of this Club has not asked to see the Finances of the Club on a regular basis.
We held weekly Meetings and on a regular basis, for Meetings to not only discuss finances, but to view and audit the Accounts.
Sorry but the Committee are equally as accountable as the Treasurer !!

Junior football club bosses have spoken of their ‘devastation’ after a treasurer left them virtually penniless by systematically stealing more than £6,000 from club accounts.

By the time an audit exposed Sharon Tomlinson’s thieving, Wythenshawe outfit Benchill Celtic FC were all but skint – with just £5.96 in the bank.

Tomlinson, 41, sobbed as Manchester magistrates were told how she had taken advantage of her position in charge of the club’s finances.

Outraged club chiefs told the M.E.N how the side has been left struggling to pay off eye-watering debts and young players have been without new kit and equipment for two years after Tomlinson syphoned off the cash.

Colin Moore, who took over as treasurer following Tomlinson’s arrest in September last year, said: “It’s had a massive impact on the club and after nine months of hard work we’re just about getting back on a steady financial footing.

“The most disappointing part of it is how it’s affected the kids – we want them to have a pride in the club and the community they represent and this has really damaged that.

"We always strive to keep costs down so as many kids as play as possible and some families really struggle to find the money sometimes and to know that money was just disappearing is devastating.”

Prosecutor Katherine Eccles said there was no system or any proper management of accounts in place.

The club had several teams and money was handed over on a monthly basis for Tomlinson, a cleaner at Manchester Airport, to bank. Miss Eccles said: “There was no real record of these transactions.”

Miss Eccles said the audit revealed that between January and September last year Tomlinson had fleeced the club to the tune £6,343.30.

Tomlinson, of Delwood Gardens, Wythenshawe, pleaded guilty to stealing the cash and will be sentenced on June 27. She was granted bail.

John Mitchell, defending, said the thefts were committed ‘against a backdrop of financial desperation’.

Tomlinson owed money to finance companies and lenders and her debts had ‘spiralled out of control’, he said.

Mr Mitchell went on “She didn’t have the experience or savvy to be a treasurer and after a while she began robbing Peter to pay Paul”.

Tomlinson, it was said, had had a long standing link with the club and her sons had played there. One son was killed in a road accident 11 years ago and there was a memorial cup in his name.

“She wants to pay back the money no matter how long it takes” said Mr Mitchell.

Now idea how they could be helped with Kits and such. Any ideas people?

Why don't the people involved organise some functions.

I was Chairman of a youth team back in the day and I organised all sorts of do's from Quiz nights, race nights, Sportsmans dinners, to our club holding football tournaments (they made a load of money)

A quiz night is a piece of piss to arrange with virtually no expense.

Get someone to be quiz master, then get 50 wives/partners to go which means the blokes have to go, thats 100 people.

Pie and peas can be done for a couple of quid a head, explain to everyone it's for club funds so charge a tenner a ticket =£800 profit.

Run a raffle with donated raffle prizes=pure profit.

We had a do only the other week where lads and lasses if they wanted to, put a fiver in an envelope, grand prize a kindle which cost £70 from argos, we made £250 clear on that.

I have to ask though why has this been allowed to happen though? Two signatures on the club accounts at least, surely?

They already do a huge amount in the local community and if you have not noticed the club is building a thing called the Etihad Campus which will have a lot of facilities for the local community

At the end of the day the club has to do what is right for the club developing links with overseas its down to the local council to provide facilities for its residents not a football club
