Could Negredo and Dzeko play Upfront Together?

Or wouldn't it work because they are too similar a player?. I'm thinking
these two upfront for the Newcastle game.

I think yes. Dzeko to me looks alot more comfortable when played with a strike partner. Look at his days at Wolfsburg, iirc him and Graphite (sp) were the best strike partnership in the history of german football.

I also thought that in the friendlies Dzeko played well with Negredo (all be it not for very long) with Negredo playing just off of him.

When they played together in Hong Kong I thought they looked good playing together.

I still think having a smaller striker, either Sergio or Jovetic, and having one of them play behind either of Dzeko or Negredo should be our first option though.

If we want to bully a defence then we should go for two big target men.

It's all about options and we seem to have a decent plan a and b now.

They'd strike me as being a bit similar (the ''big guy'' up front). But, if Aguero is going to be struggling with his injury (and I'm not saying that he is), then it might be worth a try against the Toons. Then again, what about Jovetic?

Jovetic is over 6 ft Sam. Smaller , but only just

was just discussing the very subject with my sons i think they would do well together against certain opposition

No. The team overall will perform better with just one of them in it partnered with either Jovetic or Aguero. Occasionally, they will be on the pitch at the same time, but I don't think that they will ever start a game together, unless if others are injured.

Yes, does anyone remember Blackburn's SAS partnership of Shearer and Sutton that scored over 40 premiership goals on the way to the title?

Absolutely. There was some encouraging signs in the Hong Kong friendlies when these two were actually looking for each other on the field!

Roll on Newcastle!

I thought they both did very well when they played together in Hong Kong.

Yes, they're both big lads, but they have different attributes and I'm sure Manuel is trying as many combinations as possible in training.

Just so long as Navas and Silva are on the pitch as well
They are definitely our 2 free roaming midfielders Nasri better be prepared to have a frustrating year

without doubt they can play together, proper left foot right foot combo

as much as I agreed with pudge I agree with this statement too...thing is, being similar allows them a more natural understanding on the pitch...it's like seeing yourself somewhere else on the pitch...like playing with your own clone...instinctive recognition of runs and movement maybe...

Although it looked like the combination can work, I definitely think our best option for the start of the season is either Ed or Negredo (while Kun is regaining fitness) with Jovetic, Silva and Navas. I am perfectly content with either Ed or Alvaro, as long as the other 3 play. I reckon those three players behind the striker will be magic this season.

Can easily play together in the right formation and i've no doubt we'll see it from Pellegrini from time to time this season. Can't see them both starting against Newcastle though. Edin up top with 3 from Navas/Milner/Silva/Nasri/Jovetic supporting and Negredo on the bench. (don't expect to see Kun until September)
