At work on friday I was talking to two female colleagues and conversation turned to sport, and more specifically women competing and playing in men's football.

I am an avid sports fan and count cricket, boxing, athletics, tennis and snooker as sports I am pretty knowledgeable about, so when asked about whether women could play football alongside men I replied with a 'no'. Not because I don't want to see it or because I think its a 'male only' sport, but because I cannot see female players ever matching men physically.

I got absolutely slated by my two colleagues for this and called sexist (which i'm not) I probably get slated on here too!

Am I right or wrong? Do you think women will ever compete alongside men? And if so what timescale do you put on it?

Be kind!!

In physical sport, where body contact is a part of the sport (e.g. football, rugby, etc etc), I can't see women being physically able to compete. Sorry ladies. I'm not being sexist, or at least not intentionally or knowingly.

I am a decent amateur football player, nothing special but above average. About 8 years ago I used to regularly play alongside the captain of Manchester City ladies who had won caps at England youth levels. Whilst she was better than some of the lads (it was a works 5 a side thing) she was not as good as players like me and two other who actually played 11 a side at various levels ranging from sunday league to NW counties 1st division. She could control a ball, beat players etc but she did not have the level of explosion and aggression needed, don't ge me wrong she did get 'stuck in' but that initial burst of speed or movement she just did not have.

So my answer would be no.

Ask them to get the Olympic records book out and compare male and female times or distances.
If you're comparing like for like then the male is always stronger. Even in sports such as snooker or darts they are male dominated. It all comes down to the killer instinct.

I agree sports like Golf, Tennis and swimming of course they are more than capable of competing, Rugby as mentioned above ^^^ along with football, is a no from me...
