cover/replacement for yaya?

out of all the players mentioned are any of them really in the same mold as yaya.

I ask this as he is the one player that when he wasnt playing we really missed and at the moment we dont have a replacement (short term or long term for). Ive no doubt that players like DDR are fantastic players but none of the names mentioned have that ability and shear power that yaya possesses especially when running wither with the ball or off of it....

is there a player out there that could replace yaya when he is out???????

a great player but i saw him get knocked off the ball several times tonight by an aging gerrard....when city played liverpool gerrard could get near yaya let alone manage to muscle him off the ball....there is no way DDR possesses the same running power with the ball as yaya im afraid<br /><br />-- Mon Jun 25, 2012 12:10 am --<br /><br />

I dont think that there ia another Yaya out there - what we need to to find a better partner than either DJ or Barry and certainly for those that have watched a DJ / Barry combo i feel certain would agree that this is our weakest formation - its too slow and static does not score enought goals and does not create enough.

The player that has stood out for me in this role is Khadera i think he is a fantastic player this give us lots of options - a Khadera / Yaya two for big games - we could push Yaya forward and then bring on Barry if we are chasing games to partner Khadera or a Khadera / Barry combo would be non too shabbly or even a Khadera / DJ although i think DJ is gone

De Rossi looks good but for me his best game was when he played centre half and whilst he can do a job he is not a Prem Centre Half so for me

Khedira is good, but I'd have Martinez over him.

Short term (3 years and no resale profit): D De Rossi
Long term (6 years with mega-resale profit): J Martinez

Xabi Alonso would also end up higher on my list than Khedira. So would Mascherano and last but not least Seb Schweinsteiger.

I don't think there's a single player out there who is just like Yaya, he's an anomaly who we are privileged to have. But there are many talented midfielders of varying styles with their own strengths who could play with him or instead of him depending on what we need. Midfielders that spring to mind who would improve our squad and we might have a fair chance of getting... De Rossi, Martinez, Vidal, Gustavo, Mascherano, Alonso, Benat, Sahin, Lars Bender, M'Vila, Khedira. Schweinsteiger or Iniesta would be the best signings we could make but impossible on both counts.

And there might be some hidden gems out there who scouts could find just like Juventus found Vidal last season. Kevin Strootman is highly rated but I haven't seen enough of him.

Thinking long-term, David Alaba would be an excellent shout for me. Only 19, he's pretty skinny but time to build up. For me its Marouane Fellaini, he is the closest thing to Yaya I have seen think with a few more years development he could be as good!

Alonso too old but in his pomp ie before he left Liverpool i would 100% agree but at 30 years old not a long term option

Schwinsteiger yes but does he play the DM role pretty certain he does not

Mascherano not for me but without doubt a decent player

I'd say Arturo Vidal and Maroune Fellaini are the most similar players to him in world football at the moment.

But if I could have anyone (within the realms of realism) it would be De Rossi. Although I'd much rather have De Rossi beside him.

SImilar to Yaya Toure, would mean tall, big, powerful, fast and techchnical. Too be fair, there aren't that many.

Feliani is tall, big and powerful. But he is not fast on the ball or as technically sound. However, he is better defensively and in the air.

Don't think Vidal is like Yaya at all. A different kind of player entirely. But a fantastic one none the less. Actually, the oft injured french kid at Arsenal, is probably more like Yaya than many would willingly admit. He just seems unable to reach his full potential with so many injuries and a penchant for losing confidence. But in terms of Size, technical skill on the bal, and the ability to ghost past players, he is pretty close. Not as big or bruising, but quite similar.

Looking for a Yaya clone is futile, perhaps not even adviceable. What we need is an equally talented midfielder with other characteristics. I can comfortaby say Pirlo is as equally influential if not more so than Yaya, yet he possesses none of Yaya's qualities. That is what we should be looking for, not another Yaya per se.

I think most of the names that have been mentioned can do a fantastic job. however I'd not include Alaba on that list. But there are many who can do a job for us.

Personally, I'd be looking more for a Pirlo/Xavi type than a Yaya type. We already have the ultimate Yaya, we don't need an inferior duplicate. Lets look for what we don't have. That said, I;d love Felliani here. Then again, I don't think he is really like Yaya. I think he is just good in he's own way.

Felliani, Witsel, Strootman, Benat, will be high on my list, if I was scouting for City

TBH, we shouldn't even be looking for someone EXACTLY like Yaya, because firstly, this player would probably have to rot on the bench, and he wouldn't even provide a second, DIFFERENT option. If you have noticed, Mancini buys OPTIONS, not backups.

And TBF, there's not much players out there that are like Yaya. What we need is not Yaya MK.II, what we need is another midfield general, someone who can hold the fort when Yaya's away.

I remembered when we first signed Yaya, someone mentioned that he was what our midfield lacked - a Midfield general.

For me the only players who i believe could grow into the role yaya does for us is fellaini or moussa sissokho

Maybe we already have the long term replacement in either Abdul Razak or Abdi Ibrahim. Hope they can get more 1st team football, probably on loan next season.
