Cover versions better than original (merged)

come across this today, its the bassist from Yo La Tengo.

I don't think it's better than the original, but I am really loving it. He did a whole album full of Prince covers and not obvious ones either.

Is it poor form to prefer a cover to the original? I'm pretty sure it is but off the top of my head I can think of a few. The Johnny Cash version of "in my life" is better than the original for me, and I know I'll get slated for this but I prefer Nirvana's version of "the man who sold the world". Are there anymore you can think of or is it completely unacceptable to prefer a cover version to the original?
 
I always preferred the Neil Diamond version of God only Knows originally by The Beach Boys I like the original but Neil sings it slower with more feeling than The Beach Boys I just prefer it
